5/15/2026 Transfusion‑Free Program Coordinator Summary Under the general supervision of the Transfusion‑Free Program Manager, this role functions as a patient advocate and assists the Program Manager in all aspects of the Transfusion‑Free Medicine & Surgery (TFMS) program. In addition to these values, all employees are expected to demonstrate the organization's core Success Factors , which define how we work together and achieve results: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaboration Principal Duties and Responsibilities Assist with initial consultation and orientation for patients requesting Transfusion‑Free Medicine & Surgery (TFMS), including blood conservation and blood management practices. Inform patients of available medical and surgical options, coordinate care, and provide educational resources related to TFMS. Provide support and TFMS‑specific educational materials and assist patients in completing required TFMS documentation. Function as a patient and family advocate within the scope of the TFMS program. Participate in daily rounds to ensure patients' religious, philosophical, and ethical beliefs and wishes are clearly understood and respected. Interact with hospital staff and external partners to explain department services, policies, and procedures; coordinate scheduling and special arrangements; and resolve issues as directed by the TFMS Program Manager. Serve as a liaison for hospital staff, sharing evaluations of patient and family needs obtained through direct interaction. Assist with TFMS‑related educational initiatives and consultations within the hospital and community, including orientations, seminars, in‑services, and publications (e.g., brochures, newsletters, handouts). Assist in maintaining 24‑hour pager coverage for the program. Prepare and maintain program records and reports, including: Mailing lists of interested parties Databases of physician specialties and office locations Referral tracking and follow‑up documentation Screen phone calls to the TFMS program and perform general office duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education / Basic Knowledge Level of knowledge typically acquired through two years of post‑high‑school education, including coursework in healthcare, social sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and life/work experience Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide counseling and support to patients across the lifespan, with consideration of aging processes Proven understanding of diverse religious, philosophical, ethical, and cultural beliefs Strong knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and medical terminology for editing and correcting written materials Bilingual in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred Experience One to two years of experience in healthcare, bloodless medicine/surgery, or related life experience working with diverse cultural and religious populations Experience working with the public strongly preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications preferred Work Environment and Physical Requirements Work occurs in typical office and healthcare settings, including hospital rooms, treatment areas, physician offices, and ancillary healthcare locations Direct patient contact is required Potential hazards are minimized through adherence to established safety procedures and precautions Supervisory Responsibility None Pay Range $23.35-$37.07 Location Rhode Island Hospital - 593 Eddy Street Providence, Rhode Island 02903 Work Type M-F 8:00am-5:00pm Work Shift Day Driving Required No Union United Nurses And Allied Professionals Brown University Health is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining a work environment free from all forms of unlawful discrimination and harassment.Similar remote jobs
