Class Summary The LVN (Licensed Vocational Nursing) Program Coordinator job responsibilities are described below. The LVN Program Coordinator is assigned teaching responsibilities and a range of administrative/coordinating responsibilities to assist the nurse administrator in the fulfillment of the goals of the Licensed Vocational Nursing Program and achieve the program's end-of-program student learning outcomes and program outcomes.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience Must meet Texas rules and regulations definition of qualified individual:

Hold an unencumbered current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.

Hold a Masters degree in nursing.

Have a minimum of one year teaching experience in a professional nursing education program.

Have demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in administration within a professional nursing education program.

Consistent active work experience within the past three (3) years in the nursing field required.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience Doctoral Degree in Nursing.

Have a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience in a community college setting.

Minimum Knowledge & Skills Principles and practices of teaching;

Training techniques;

Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the specific course and program area;

Knowledge of student engagement techniques;

Record keeping procedures.

Strong communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Ensure timely, clear, and professional communication across multiple stakeholders, including students, faculty, college departments, clinical partners, and accrediting agencies.

Ability to teach any nursing courses in any College of the Mainland Nursing Programs

Current, evidence-based knowledge in nursing practice

Ability to integrate real-world experience into teaching

Adapts teaching methods for diverse learners (including nontraditional students)

Preferred Knowledge & Skills Experience supporting accreditation activities, including standards compliance, documentation review, assessment, and quality improvement efforts.

Job Duties Comply with COM and Nursing Department Policies and Procedures to ensure a positive learning environment for student instruction and to support the activities of the college and to attend meetings and training as required.

Accountable for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of the licensed vocational nursing education program.

Collaborates with the Nursing Program Clinical Coordinator to maintain affiliation agreements with appropriate clinical sites.

Maintains and ongoing relationship with the community and clinical affiliating agencies.

Assists the Director of Nursing with academic & clinical planning of faculty workload.

Assists the Director of Nursing with program data required for annual and ongoing reports to regulatory, accrediting, and professional agencies, including but not limited to the Texas Board of Nursing (BON), National League for Nursing (NLN), and other institutional, state, and federal reporting entities.

Prepare teaching / learning activities to promote clinical judgement.

Teaches theory and clinical components, advises, and evaluates program outcomes

Recruits and retains students for the program

Is a member of the Nursing Department committees.

Participate in committees and meetings and be in attendance at least 90% of the time.

Leads faculty in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the LVN curriculum.

Provides guidance to students while being sensitive to the needs of students from a diverse population

Participates in the assessment activities of the program and department

Attends program and department faculty meetings

Prepare online learning platform for courses

Meet clinical assignments.

Prepare clinical schedules and arrangements for assigned agency in a timely manner.

Supervision of students caring for 1-3 patients.

Coordinate safe nursing care of patients by student.

Maintain Texas RN Licensure and credentials.

Maintain current immunizations and CPR as required by clinical agencies.

Maintain a minimum of 7.5 scheduled office hours per week to be available for students.

Models ethical, compassionate, and culturally competent care.

Upholds academic and clinical standards

Continues professional development in scholarship, teaching, and community service

Serves on program, department, and college committees

Participates in program, department, and college events

Performs responsibilities specified in the Nursing Faculty Handbook in a timely manner

Collaborates with administrative assistant to ensure completion of annual updates of Nursing Program Coordinator faculty files specific to clinical readiness documentation

Coordinates tracking of student progression

Collaborates with the Nursing Program Academic Advisor(s) to support applicants/candidates through the application process and maintains records

Assists in the preparation of accreditation materials and accreditation processes

Oversees and distributes textbook vendor list

Serves as a role model and mentor for students

Advocates for student success and academic integrity

Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing

Licensing/Certification Requirements Must hold unencumbered Registered Nursing license in the state of Texas.

Physical Requirements May work indoors in classroom, skills lab, and office, travel to clinical assignments. Work with students, staff, and patients during clinical teaching experience. Occasional irregular hours or weekend work.

Clinical shifts will be for a period of 12 hours.

Physical:

High physical demand. Must be able to stoop, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist in patient care/clinical teaching situations, or demonstrate ability to perform tasks successfully. Possible exposure to communicable diseases through patient care clinical experience. Occasionally assist in two-person lifting of patients. Identifying specific weights lifted in a transfer is difficult because it is dependent upon the amount of assistance the patient is able to offer.
