The Utah Lake Authority (ULA) is responsible for managing and enhancing the ecological health, recreational opportunities, and economic development of Utah Lake and its surrounding communities. Our mission is to lead collaborative efforts with federal, state, and local agencies to improve the long-term viability and environmental sustainability of Utah Lake.
Position Summary :
The Education Programs Coordinator leads the development, coordination, and delivery of environmental education programs for the Utah Lake Authority. This position builds upon existing education initiatives while designing new, innovative programs that engage diverse audiences and strengthen community understanding of natural systems, conservation, and sustainability. The Coordinator also plays a key role in cultivating partnerships with schools, community organizations, and agency partners to expand program reach and impact. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in environmental or biological sciences who is passionate about education, public engagement, and translating complex science into accessible, meaningful learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities :
Program Development & Management:
Develop, refine, and expand existing environmental education programs, ensuring they align with agency goals and community needs Design and implement new education initiatives for a variety of audiences (e.g., K-12, college students, educators, community members, professionals) Coordinate program logistics, schedules, materials, and evaluation efforts Track program outcomes and contribute to reporting, grant deliverables, and continuous improvement
Education & Content Creation:
Create engaging environmental education content, including lesson plans, curricula, workshops, presentations, and outreach material. Translate scientific and technical information into clear, accessible educational resources Incorporate place-based, hands-on, and experiential learning approaches where appropriate
Partnership & Outreach:
Build and maintain relationships with schools, universities, nonprofits, government agencies, and community partners Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to co-develop and deliver programs Represent the agency at community events, workshops, and meetings related to education and outreach Support broader agency education, outreach, and communication goals as needed Assist with volunteer engagement, special events, or cross-program initiatives Stay informed on best practices in environmental education and community engagement
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, education, or a related field Demonstrated experience in environmental education, science communication, community outreach, or informal education Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences Experience developing or delivering educational programs or curricula Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with partners and team members
Preferred Qualifications :
Master's degree in a relevant field Experience working with schools, watershed groups, conservation organizations, or public agencies Familiarity with environmental education standards, outdoor education, or place-based learning Grant writing, reporting, or program evaluation experience Experience coordinating partnerships or multi-stakeholder projects
Skills :
Passion for environmental education and community engagement Strong organizational and project management skills Creative, adaptable, and solution-oriented Comfortable translating scientific concepts for non-technical audiences Commitment to inclusive, accessible, and culturally relevant education
