READY Program Facilitator Newport News, VA Job Details Part-time $16 - $20 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Some college Computer operation Teamwork Report writing Working with individuals with disabilities Word processing Computer literacy Mid-level De-escalation support in education High school diploma or GED Direct support Organizational skills Human Services Progress documentation Communication skills Time management Full Job Description Overview Community Knights READY Facilitators will provide one-to-one support for individuals with disabilities who have been placed with one of our local community partner businesses in a Work Experience (as an employee) or a Work-based Learning Experience (as a volunteer). READY Facilitators facilitate person-centered, effective, positive relationships with participants using strategic approaches that promote self-determination in all areas of life. Our program participants develop both work-specific skills as well as important soft skills such as communication, collaboration, and self-advocacy with the support of a READY Facilitator who models, coaches, and reinforces this learning in a positive and affirming manner. Program participants may have a range of intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, or related conditions, as well as social, emotional, or behavioral needs. READY Facilitators work with each participant for a period of 3-8 weeks. Core Responsibilities Implement modifications and support strategies to address participant needs as necessary under guidance of READY Facilitator Coordinator. Model, coach, and support participants in navigating workplace interactions and culture including addressing soft skills necessary for work success. Identify, assess, and report professional strengths and weaknesses of participants in the workplace, and implement strategies to develop skills and competencies accordingly. Implement strategies to support participant progress toward identified development and learning goals. Maintain & submit documentation of participant progress, challenges, success, and attendance in specified daily and monthly reporting logs. Communicate and interact with participants and employees of assigned workplace or volunteer locations regarding specific job duties modeling professional behaviors and self-advocacy. Assist participants with development and implementation of problem solving, organization, and time management skills. Assume self-direction when applicable, to solve problems and act on opportunities, while also maintaining good communication with the designated supervisor to ensure the appropriateness of the actions taken. Additional Responsibilities and Expectations Must be able to prioritize and address participant needs with regard to safety, growth, and support. Maintain professional relationship with participant, all workplace staff and patrons, and Community Knights staff. Recognize potential stressors to avoid participant escalation and respond appropriately to mitigate adverse situations and de-escalate participant response as necessary. Maintain regular communication with READY Facilitator Coordinator as directed. Submit required Daily Logs of workplace experience according to specifications by established deadlines. Contribute to monthly reports as required with appropriately formatted responses in a timely fashion. Participate in bi-weekly group or one-on-one meetings with READY Facilitator Coordinator or their designee. Complete any required professional learning activities or assignments as required. Serves as a Mandatory Reporter (see Virginia Department of Social Services for more information). Additional duties as assigned. Qualifications & Skills The ideal candidate will have training, knowledge, and experience supporting individuals with disabilities through appropriate use of accommodations.
Required :
21 years old or older. Reliable transportation to assigned worksites in Hampton, Newport News and/or York County. High School Diploma. Ability to develop a relationship of mutual trust and respect with assigned participants while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Access to a personal computer and proficiency with basic word processing and file storage, retrieval, and sharing. Must model professionalism and be able to coach professionalism in others. Growth mindset, empathy, and emotional intelligence are essential to this work. Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills are desiredPreferred:
At least 4 semesters of college undergraduate study or degree earned. Preference may be given to candidates with education and experience in related fields (education, human services, social work, etc.)Pay:
