CLASS SUMMARY
The Summer Camp Director oversees the successful planning, management, and execution of a dynamic day camp program for children aged 7-11. This leadership role involves supervising a team of camp counselors, developing age-appropriate curriculum, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging camp experience. The Director fosters a positive environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, and personal growth for both campers and staff.
Availability:
June 15, 2026 - August 14, 2026 Monday through Friday, 35-40 hours per week (8:30 AM - 4:30 PM or as scheduled)
EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS
The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.
Key Responsibilities Program Leadership & Development:
Plan, organize, and oversee daily camp activities, special events, and recreational programming that promote social, emotional, and physical development. Ensure programs are age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with camp goals. Incorporate camper feedback and industry best practices to enhance the program experience.
Staff Management:
Assist in recruitment, hiring, training, and supervising camp counselors and support staff. Provide ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development for staff. Lead daily staff meetings to coordinate schedules, address challenges, and foster teamwork.
Camper Safety & Risk Management:
Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of all campers and staff. Monitor camper behavior and manage incidents, including behavioral issues and emergencies, with proper documentation and parent communication. Maintain awareness of environmental and physical safety conditions.
Administrative & Operational Oversight:
Manage camp logistics, including scheduling, supplies inventory, and daily operations. Maintain accurate records for attendance, incident reports, and program evaluations. Assist with budget tracking and resource allocation to ensure efficient camp operations.
Communication & Community Engagement:
Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, addressing concerns and providing updates. Communicate camp policies, daily schedules, and special events through emails and newsletters. Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners and vendors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age. Bachelor's degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development, related field (preferred), or previous experience as a summer day camp director. Previous experience in camp management, youth programs, or educational leadership. Proven leadership and staff supervision experience. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff. Knowledge of safety protocols and risk management best practices for youth programs. Basic First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before the start date). Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 20 lbs. Must pass a background check.
