Job Description
$500 Sign-on Bonus! The Food Program Coordinator is a full time, in-person, vegetarian, mostly local and organic, solo chef position at Bernie's Place, Wisconsin Union Childcare Center. Located on the edge of the Eagle Heights Woods near Lake Mendota, Bernie's Place is a small but long standing, licensed and accredited, non-profit childcare program serving the families and students connected with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our license allows us to care for up to 54 children aged six weeks to six years old, Monday through Friday from 7:15am until 5:15pm. Our building has a spacious elevator and stairs to navigate our two stories plus a basement. As the Food Program Coordinator, you would be working independently to oversee, plan and execute operations of the food program, including hygiene, meal planning and preparation, food distribution to rooms, record keeping and all kitchen operations. Bernie's believes in serving a diverse vegetarian, low to no processed sugar menu that centers around mostly organic food from the Willy Street Coop and Woodman's. You would serve 54 children and 15 adults in a beautiful, air conditioned kitchen with a stable Monday through Friday schedule. The FPC will prepare and clean up after all meals and procure food and supplies for the food program. There are federal Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines (CACFP) and paperwork to complete. The center serves vegetarian breakfast at 9am, lunch at 11:30am, and afternoon snack at 2:30pm. This position comes with competitive union protected benefits including health and dental insurance, immediate accrual of vacation/sick leave, family leave, and childcare at a greatly reduced rate. We are currently offering a sign on bonus, as well. The starting salary for this position is $34,000-$35,000 based on experience. Kitchen experience required.
