Job Description

This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI. (695 ) a Level 1A Complexity VHA Facility and is organizationally aligned under the Surgical Care Division.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/15/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement :
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Specialized Experience:
You must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience in or related to the Supervisory Program Specialist position that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. To be creditable, this specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in Federal service. . Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to: Monitored program operations for compliance with policies and regulatory requirements throughout the Surgical care division and cancer program. Knowledge of the medical center's administrative operations, functions, organization, missions, goals, and objectives. Have performed procedures and possess the skills to apply while performing a wide variety of analytical studies and projects related to management improvement, productivity improvement, management controls, and planning. Researched problems and issues, and the application of mature judgment and excellence in problem solving and all its phases. Used acquired skills to plan, organize, and direct individual or team studies for approved project plans. Prepared proposals and cost estimates, coordinated with other involved staff and management personnel.
Preferred Experience:
At least 2 years of experience providing administrative support to a clinical division, ideally including multi-specialty outpatient clinics and procedural services. At least 2 years of supervisory experience. Experience with supporting accredited programs, such as those overseen by the Commission on Cancer or equivalent regulatory bodies. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Administration and Management Budget Administration Human Resources Management Leadership Planning and Evaluating Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note :
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities base on patient needs.
