Architectural Project Manager Status Full Time Employer Robson Communities Location Sun Lakes, AZ Job Description The Architectural Project Manager serves as the organization's architectural subject matter expert, providing technical leadership throughout the planning, design, permitting, and construction phases of residential community development projects. This position manages architectural construction documentation, coordinates with external architectural and engineering consultants, and partners with internal departments to ensure projects meet Robson Communities' standards for quality, functionality, constructability, budget, and schedule. Working with a high degree of independence, the Architectural Project Manager resolves complex architectural and construction challenges, establishes quality standards, and provides technical guidance that supports successful project delivery across multiple communities.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Architectural Design & Coordination:
  • Manage the preparation, coordination, and quality of architectural construction documents from schematic design through construction administration.
  • Coordinate the work of external architects, engineers, and consultants to ensure complete, accurate, and timely project documentation.
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and details for compliance with company standards, applicable building codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure construction documents accurately reflect design intent while supporting efficient construction methods.
Project Collaboration:
  • Partner with Project Management, Marketing, Purchasing, Construction, Design, and other departments to incorporate program requirements into construction documents.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to respond to municipal plan review comments, obtain building permits, and coordinate consultant responses to maintain project schedules.
  • Support construction operations by working closely with field superintendents to resolve design questions, Requests for Information (RFIs), field conditions, and detailing issues.
Technical Leadership:
  • Perform comprehensive quality control reviews of construction documents prior to issuance.
  • Resolve complex architectural, technical, permitting, and construction issues with sound professional judgment.
  • Interpret and apply building codes, zoning regulations, accessibility standards, and applicable construction requirements.
  • Recommend practical, cost-effective design solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, constructability, and budget.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement:
  • Serve as the technical resource for architectural standards, detailing, and construction documentation.
  • Mentor architects, designers, and drafting personnel by sharing technical expertise and best practices.
  • Promote continuous improvement of architectural processes, drafting standards, and document quality.
  • Build productive working relationships with consultants, contractors, municipal agencies, and internal stakeholders.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Expert knowledge of architectural design principles, construction documentation, and building systems. Thorough understanding of architectural and engineering drawing standards, detailing practices, and construction methodologies. Working knowledge of applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and permitting processes. Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills. Excellent verbal, written, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Strong commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to communicate concepts through hand sketches when appropriate. Technical Expertise Quality Focus Collaboration Communication Decision Making Problem Solving Customer Focus Accountability Continuous Improvement Planning and Organization Adaptability Leadership and Mentoring Requirements Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related discipline required. Registered Architect (RA) license preferred. Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible architectural experience.
  • Experience coordinating architectural consultants, permitting agencies, and construction teams.
  • Residential, master-planned community, commercial, or mixed-use development experience preferred.
