Capital Projects Director City of Fresno, CA City of Fresno, California Capital Projects Director Salary:
$152,244 to $247,560 Fresno offers a competitive executive benefits package.
First resume review:
September 25, 2026. Build Fresno's Future And Your Legacy! The City of Fresno is seeking an accomplished, forward-thinking Capital Projects Director to lead a growing department at a pivotal moment in the City's transformation. With a $50 million department and 270 active projects, this is an opportunity to shape how Fresno delivers the infrastructure that will define the community for generations. As California's fifth-largest city, serving more than 550,000 residents, Fresno is the economic, cultural, and governmental center of the San Joaquin Valley. The City is making one of its largest long-term investments in infrastructure in decades, with projects spanning transportation, public facilities, utilities, parks, streets, and civic spaces. This is more than an engineering leadership position. It is an opportunity to build an organization, strengthen project delivery, develop future leaders, and influence how one of California's fastest-growing cities invests in its future. As Capital Projects Director, you will lead a department that is becoming Fresno's center of excellence for capital project delivery, strengthen project management practices, advance consistency and accountability, and foster collaboration across City departments. You will also serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, elected officials, and community stakeholders while developing the next generation of engineering and project management leaders. The ideal candidate is an authentic and collaborative leader who can move comfortably between technical professionals, executive leadership, elected officials, and the community. You will bring strategic vision, political astuteness, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement-along with the ability to build trust, hold people accountable, and deliver results. Why Fresno? Fresno offers affordable California living, with more home for your money than many major California markets. Located in the heart of the Central Valley, Fresno puts you minutes from the Sierra Nevada and within easy reach of Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, the Central Coast, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. It is a diverse, growing community with rich cultural offerings, excellent dining, professional sports, arts, and year-round events. With shorter commutes and a balanced lifestyle, Fresno provides an opportunity to build your career while building a city. If you're a strategic infrastructure leader who knows how to develop people, strengthen organizations, build partnerships, and deliver complex capital programs, we want to hear from you. Public and private sector leaders are encouraged to apply. Your Leadership Will Shape Fresno for Generations.
