Job Title:
Virtual Design Coordinator Job Description The Virtual Design Coordinator produces highly accurate 3D Revit models to support the coordination and installation of electrical systems on large, complex projects. This role leads virtual design and construction (VDC) efforts, participates in multidisciplinary coordination meetings, and develops detailed shop drawings that enable efficient prefabrication and field installation. The coordinator serves as a technical resource for engineers, project managers, and field teams, helping to resolve design conflicts, maintain constructability and budget, and ensure compliance with project and code requirements. This position offers the opportunity to work on a long-term, landmark healthcare project with work anticipated through 2032. Responsibilities Produce detailed 3D Revit models to coordinate and support the installation of electrical scope of work on large projects. Participate actively in coordination meetings with other trades to identify and resolve clashes while maintaining budget, constructability, and compliance with project and code requirements. Develop and issue detailed shop drawings from coordinated models for use by prefabrication teams and field installers to ensure successful and efficient project delivery. Prepare clear and comprehensive Requests for Information (RFIs) to document conflicts in design related to project coordination and 3D models. Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans, sections, and elevations with a high level of competence to support accurate modeling and coordination. Confer with the engineer of record and project management staff to resolve design and coordination issues and to explain drawings to prefabrication or construction teams. Provide timely adjustments to models and drawings as needed to reflect design changes, field conditions, and coordination outcomes. Travel to various project sites as required to support coordination efforts, verify field conditions, and collaborate with onsite teams. Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs in all work activities. Lead and manage a small BIM/VDC team as the primary coordinator on large projects, including assigning tasks and reviewing work for quality and accuracy. Back up or act on behalf of the BIM/VDC Manager when required, ensuring continuity of VDC operations and coordination. Advise and mentor other VDC team members to help them develop their technical skills and overall proficiency in BIM and coordination workflows. Produce and manage point layout data to support robotic total station workflows for accurate field installation. Leverage cloud collaboration platforms and project coordination tools to manage models, documents, and workflows across project stakeholders. Perform other related duties as required to support successful project delivery and team objectives. Essential Skills Minimum 5 years of experience as a California certified journeyman electrician and 5 years of experience as a BIM coordinator, OR a minimum of 10 years of experience as an electrical BIM coordinator. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Advanced knowledge of all facets of construction documentation for multiple scopes, including specifications, drawings, submittals, and requests for information. Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including advanced skills such as family creation and template management. Expert skill in 3D coordination with other trades to identify and resolve clashes and ensure constructability. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu (preferred) and/or Adobe Acrobat for reviewing and marking up documents and drawings. Proficiency in developing point layout for robotic total station workflows. Advanced understanding of cloud collaboration platforms and processes such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Procore, Box, and similar tools. Working knowledge of Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Build, and other project coordination platforms. Ability to interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings, sections, and elevations with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to effectively advise and support other VDC team members in developing their technical skills. Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex drawings and coordination issues to engineers, project managers, prefabrication teams, and field personnel. Ability to lead and manage a small BIM/VDC team and act as lead coordinator on large projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience producing 3D Revit models specifically for coordination and installation of electrical systems. Experience producing detailed shop drawings from coordinated models for prefabrication and field installation. Experience preparing RFIs to document and resolve design conflicts related to coordination and 3D models. Experience participating in multidisciplinary coordination meetings to resolve clashes while maintaining budget and constructability. Experience working on large, complex projects such as healthcare or institutional facilities. Interest in long-term project work, including participation in a major children's hospital project with anticipated work through 2032. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and field teams to resolve problems and implement coordinated solutions. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing models, drawings, and documentation. Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and technologies in a dynamic construction environment. Work Environment This role is 100% onsite and is primarily performed in a typical office environment with regular collaboration with project and field teams. The position requires extensive computer-based work, including reading and keying at a workstation for extended periods of time. The role involves frequent sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing, as well as regular walking within the office to retrieve files and meet with colleagues in offices or conference rooms. The position also requires reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, and occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally travel by car as a driver or passenger to various job sites and must be able to safely navigate active construction environments. The work environment emphasizes safety, collaboration, and the use of modern BIM, VDC, and cloud collaboration tools to support coordinated project delivery. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Martinez, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $86.00/hr.
