Job Description
Senior Civil Project ManagerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Project Manager to lead complex civil and underground utilities projects from planning through close-out. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical knowledge of civil construction, underground utilities and process piping with proven project management skills to deliver safe, on time and on budget infrastructure and sitework projects. This role requires stakeholder leadership, contract and budget control, and a focus on quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the full project lifecycle for civil and underground utilities projects including planning, design coordination, procurement, construction management, commissioning and close-out.
Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts and risk registers; proactively identify and mitigate schedule, cost and technical risks.
Manage design review and coordination with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, mechanical, piping, environmental and geotechnical) to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.
Oversee subcontractor procurement, contract administration and performance management; prepare scopes of work, evaluate bids and enforce contract requirements.
Provide on-site leadership and supervision during construction activities, including daily coordination of sitework, excavation, trenching, tunnelling/boring (as applicable), shoring and process piping installation.
Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental policies and regulatory requirements; lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
Serve as primary client and stakeholder point of contact; lead project meetings, present status updates and manage expectations to achieve client satisfaction.
Implement quality control processes and inspections; ensure as-built documentation, testing and commissioning activities are completed and handed over to the client.
Mentor and coach junior project managers, engineers and field staff; build and maintain high-performing project teams.
Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, optimizing construction methods and contributing to business development efforts and proposals.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (PMP, PE) preferred.
Minimum 12 years of progressive experience managing civil construction and underground utilities projects, with at least 4 years in a senior or lead project management role.
Demonstrated experience with underground utilities (UG utilities), sitework, infrastructure projects and civil construction methods including excavation, backfill, compaction and trench safety.
Hands-on experience with process piping coordination and installation, and working knowledge of piping codes and standards preferred.
Strong financial and commercial acumen with experience managing project budgets, cost controls, change management and contract negotiations.
Proven leadership and communication skills with experience interfacing with clients, regulatory agencies, design teams and construction crews.
Working knowledge of construction management software (Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore or similar), CAD/BIM coordination tools and Microsoft Office suite.
Committed to safety culture with certifications such as OSHA, HSE or equivalent and experience implementing site-specific safety plans.
Ability to travel to project sites and work in field environments; valid drivers license and willingness to work extended hours as project demands require.
