ESTIMATOR / PROJECT MANAGER
Construction Department Full-Time Location:
Santa Rosa, CA Compensation:
$90,000 - $110,000 DOE + Benefits
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Company is seeking an experienced Estimator/Project Manager to join our Construction Department. In this role you will own the full bid cycle—from initial RFP review through project closeout—while directing and mentoring on-site staff and coordinating all off-site activities. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in paving, grading, underground utilities, and sitework, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where business acumen, field knowledge, and client relationships all matter. Reports To Director of Construction / VP of Operations Supervises Project Engineers, Temporary / Summer Staff Employment Type Full-Time, Exempt Travel Local/regional field visits required Education Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent) Experience 5+ years of progressive construction experience
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating & Business Development Evaluate all incoming RFPs and make timely bid/no-bid recommendations Maintain and distribute the weekly bid list; track pursuit pipeline Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for paving, grading, underground, and general sitework scopes Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, subcontractors, and material vendors Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and pre-award interviews Project Management & Execution Develop and execute a comprehensive Project Execution Plan for each awarded project Build the initial master schedule; oversee and approve updates throughout the project lifecycle Manage subcontracts, purchase orders, and the full procurement process Oversee cost control and change management systems; compile timely financial performance reports Prepare and submit monthly pay applications to owner; review and approve trade contractor payment applications with Superintendent Prepare monthly client project status reports as required Oversee the permit process and project close-out, including the warranty period Field & Safety Leadership Direct and mentor on-site staff, including Project Engineers and field personnel Develop and maintain site logistics plans in coordination with the field team Oversee the site safety plan; communicate and enforce the Safety and Health Management Program Model a personal commitment to an Injury-Free Environment and mentor others to do the same Set up and execute QA/QC procedures; conduct quality inspections and review test data for specification compliance Client & Stakeholder Relations Serve as the primary owner contact from pre-construction through the warranty period Lead project meetings: progress, pre-construction, and pre-award Maintain strong relationships with clients, designers, consultants, and internal stakeholders
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience 5+ years of progressive construction experience, with demonstrated increases in responsibility and project revenue Hands-on experience with paving, grading, underground utilities, and general sitework Thorough understanding of Lump Sum and Time & Materials contracts Advanced knowledge of construction codes, standards, and accounting principles Demonstrated ability to lead multi-discipline project teams Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Preferred OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification EIT (Engineer-in-Training) or PE license Familiarity with California prevailing wage and public works requirements

Estimating Software:
HCSS HeavyBid, On-Screen Takeoff, or equivalent
Project Management:
Procore, Buildertrend, or equivalent
Productivity:
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel proficiency essential);
Bluebeam Revu Accounting:
QuickBooks (project cost coding and review) Strong written and verbal communication; confident presenting to executives, clients, and public groups Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills Sound math and financial analysis skills (percentages, ratios, cost projections) High discretion and the ability to handle confidential information

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in a combination of office and field environments. Field visits to active construction sites require appropriate PPE and safety precautions. The employee must be able to stand, walk, and move across uneven terrain; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; and possess sufficient vision and focus for close document review as well as distance observation on job sites.
