This role ensures the right people are assigned to the right work at the right time by evaluating engagement requirements, resource availability, skill sets, developmental goals, and business priorities. The position maintains forward-looking demand and capacity plans, resolves resource conflicts, monitors utilization, and provides leadership with actionable workforce insights to optimize resource deployment, timeline feasibility, client service, and business performance. The role exercises independent judgment in recommending staffing decisions, balancing competing priorities, challenging proposed schedules when necessary, and improving resource management processes. The Project Resource Manager serves as a key liaison between leadership, project managers, engagement leaders, and staff to ensure efficient utilization of resources across the organization. Duties Key Responsibilities Evaluate engagement and project staffing needs and assign appropriate personnel based on business requirements, technical skills, availability, developmental objectives, and client expectations (15%). Key Results / Expectations Effective alignment of personnel with client engagements and strategic initiatives. Improved resource utilization and balanced workload distribution across departments. Reduced scheduling conflicts and improved staffing decision-making. Proactive identification and resolution of capacity constraints and resource risks. Accurate 3-6 month demand versus capacity forecasting. Consistent reporting on utilization, chargeability, staffing gaps, and resource deployment trends. Strong partnership with leadership to support business growth and talent development. Continuous improvement of resource planning processes, reporting, and governance. Maintain an integrated resource plan aligning project demand, engagement requirements, role-based capacity, and business priorities; identify constraints and recommend mitigation strategies (15%). Monitor resource utilization, availability, and workload distribution across the organization; proactively identify and address overutilization, underutilization, and staffing gaps (15%). Facilitate recurring resource planning meetings with project leaders, engagement managers, and business leadership; document resource allocation decisions, tradeoffs, assumptions, and actions (10%). Resolve resource conflicts by identifying alternative staffing solutions that meet organizational needs while supporting employee development and career growth (10%). Build and maintain short- and long-term resource forecasts, including utilization, availability, capacity, skills coverage, and future staffing requirements (10%). Serve as the primary point of contact for unassigned personnel and proactively identify meaningful assignments, client work, projects, and development opportunities (5%). Design, generate, and analyze resource management reports and dashboards, including utilization, chargeability, billable hour variances, capacity forecasts, staffing gaps, and other leadership-requested analytics (10%). Provide deployment insights, utilization trends, staffing recommendations, and resource planning guidance to firm leadership and department heads (5%). Maintain accurate resource data, including skills inventories, availability, planned time off, allocations, certifications, and workforce profiles within resource planning systems (3%). Coach and mentor junior resource management team members and contribute to the ongoing development of resource management practices and standards (1%). Lead and support resource planning and deployment initiatives that improve resource utilization, planning governance, reporting capabilities, and operational effectiveness (1%).
