Job Description

Job Description The Assistant Project Manager supports all phases of commercial construction projects, from preconstruction through execution and closeout. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Project Executives to help deliver projects on time, within budget, and in alignment with quality and safety standards. The Assistant Project Manager manages project documentation, supports scheduling and cost tracking, coordinates subcontractors and materials, and contributes to successful project closeout. This position is well suited for a construction professional who wants to develop technical and leadership skills in a collaborative environment and grow into a Project Manager role. Responsibilities Support all phases of commercial construction projects, including preconstruction, project execution, and closeout. Manage project documentation such as Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, and related records to ensure accuracy and timely processing. Assist with project scheduling and project controls using construction scheduling tools to maintain realistic timelines and milestones. Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams to ensure materials, labor, and equipment are available as needed. Support cost tracking and financial processes by helping monitor budgets, change orders, and cost impacts throughout the project lifecycle. Assist with planning and scheduling activities to align project resources, timelines, and deliverables. Participate in permit coordination activities to help secure and track required approvals and inspections. Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Project Executives to address issues, maintain progress, and uphold quality and safety standards. Support stakeholder communication by working with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams to share updates and resolve questions. Assist with estimating and bidding processes by gathering data, reviewing documents, and supporting proposal preparation as needed. Contribute to successful project closeout by organizing final documentation, supporting punch list completion, and helping ensure contract requirements are met. Maintain strong organization of project files and information to support efficient reporting and decision-making. Communicate clearly with field teams and leadership to provide updates on schedule, documentation, and coordination activities. Essential Skills 3-5 years of experience supporting commercial construction projects. Strong experience managing RFIs, submittals, and change orders. Experience coordinating with subcontractors, Project Managers, and field teams. Project management and construction management experience in a commercial environment. Proficiency in RFI and submittal management, change order and cost tracking, and project coordination. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with project stakeholders. Experience with construction scheduling tools such as Primavera, MS Project, or Phoenix. Experience with document management systems and construction management platforms such as Procore. Experience working with architects, engineers, and subcontractors on commercial projects. Attention to detail and accuracy in handling project documentation and schedules. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with construction scheduling tools and document management systems. Exposure to estimating or bidding processes in a commercial construction setting. Experience with scheduling, planning, and permit coordination. Experience with stakeholder communication across project teams and external partners. Familiarity with healthcare-related construction projects is beneficial. Experience using Procore or similar construction management software. Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Interest in growing into a Project Manager and leadership role within a construction organization. Commitment to continuous learning, training, and long-term professional growth. Work Environment This is an onsite role based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, working on project-based commercial construction worksites. The position involves a combination of office work and active construction site activities, requiring regular presence in both settings. The typical schedule follows standard Monday-Friday hours, with the potential for extended hours depending on project needs and deadlines. The work environment is highly collaborative, with frequent interaction with field teams, Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
