Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day
Position Overview:
The Controls Group Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and overall performance of the Controls (Building Automation Systems) department. This role manages all resources involved in the execution of controls projects and service work, ensuring successful delivery from planning through completion. Responsibilities include leading project managers, engineers, programmers, and field technicians to achieve operational goals related to schedule, budget, quality, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate provides strong leadership, technical expertise in HVAC controls and building automation systems, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This position ensures standardization of processes, effective resource planning, and continuous improvement of departmental performance, while supporting business growth and maintaining strong relationships with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
Principal Duties:
  • Oversee daily operations of the Controls (BAS) group, including project execution and service activities.
  • Lead, manage, and support Project Managers, Engineers, Programmers, and Field Technicians.
  • Plan, allocate, and adjust labor resources to meet project schedules and service demands.
  • Ensure all controls projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including cost tracking, forecasting, and Work-In-Progress reporting.
  • Standardize and enforce engineering, programming, and commissioning practices across the department.
  • Provide technical leadership and support for HVAC controls systems, BAS architecture, and integrations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex system issues and ensure proper system operation and performance.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Review project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout packages.
  • Develop and implement processes to improve operational efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Support estimating, project turnover, and pre-construction activities as needed.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and act as an escalation point for project and service issues.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, industry standards, and applicable codes.
  • Train, mentor, and develop team members to support growth and advancement within the department.
  • Provide regular reporting on departmental performance, workload, and resource planning.
Skills and Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent combination of technical training, apprenticeship, and relevant industry experience.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with experience supervising staff
  • Mechanical, Controls and/or Electrical aptitude
  • Above average communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of union environments, including coordination with union labor, work rules, and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
Adept Conflict Resolution Skills Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and or Microsoft Visio
  • Advanced knowledge of PDF documents (Adobe Acrobat)
  • Experience in budgeting, scheduling, and managing resources
  • Knowledge of project life cycle and Work-In-Progress (WIP) procedures
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Standard in-office environment with occasional travel to on-site projects, as required.
Compensation:
Salary Range is $100,000 - $140,000 per year
Supplemental Pay:
Yearly discretionary bonus
