Project Manager - Excavation & Construction May Excavating Inc. About the Role May Excavating Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead our construction and excavation projects from bid through completion. This person has a positive, solution-focused attitude and excellent communication skills. This is a hands-on role for someone who is equally comfortable reviewing plans and specifications at the desk and walking a job site in the field. The right candidate understands public works requirements, knows heavy equipment, and can keep projects on schedule, on budget, and in compliance. What You'll Do Manage construction and excavation projects from bidding through final closeout Read, interpret, and work from construction specifications, plans, and blueprints Prepare and submit accurate bids and cost estimates for public and private projects Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, material deliveries, and equipment scheduling Ensure compliance with government contract requirements, including IDOT, IDNR, and federally funded work Track project budgets, schedules, costs, and documentation Handle submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders Maintain safety and quality standards across all job sites What We're Looking For Proven experience in construction or excavation project management Ability to read and interpret construction specs, plans, and blueprints Working knowledge of heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, etc.) and field operations Proficiency in Microsoft Office Direct field experience on active construction sites Experience with government and public works contracts and compliance requirements Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with IDOT and IDNR specifications and submittal processes Estimating and bidding experience Some travel required.
