DESCRIPTION
(Roles, Responsibilities, and Expectations) Position Summary The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all phases of plastic injection mold manufacturing projects from purchase order through final delivery and customer approval. This role serves as the primary point of contact between customers and internal departments including engineering, design, machining, assembly, purchasing, and quality. The Project Manager ensures projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and in alignment with customer requirements and company standards. This position requires strong technical understanding of injection molds, effective communication, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle. Project Planning and Coordination Manage multiple mold manufacturing projects simultaneously from order receipt through tool delivery and production approval. Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure milestones are met. Coordinate project activities across design, engineering, machining, assembly, and tryout departments. Monitor progress and adjust schedules to address delays or changes in scope. Customer Communication Serve as the primary customer contact for assigned projects. Provide regular project status updates, timelines, and milestone reports. Communicate engineering questions, design reviews, and approval requirements to customers. Manage change requests and communicate impacts to cost, schedule, or scope. Design and Engineering Oversight Coordinate mold design reviews and ensure customer approvals are obtained. Ensure designs meet manufacturability requirements and customer specifications. Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve design or performance issues. Production and Manufacturing Coordination Track mold progress through machining, assembly, and tryout. Work closely with department managers to ensure projects remain on schedule. Identify potential bottlenecks or risks and proactively implement solutions. Issue Resolution and Escalation Investigate project issues and determine root causes. Coordinate corrective actions across departments. Escalate critical risks to leadership when required. Documentation and Reporting Maintain accurate project documentation including timelines, approvals, and change orders. Track key project milestones such as design approval, machining completion, assembly start, and mold sampling. Provide internal reporting on project status and performance. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve project management processes and communication. Support implementation of project tracking tools and standardized workflows. Contribute to improving on-time delivery and customer satisfaction. Skills and Competencies Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously Excellent communication and customer relationship skills Problem-solving and root cause analysis abilities Strong attention to detail Ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority Proficiency in project management software and ERP systems Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field preferred Equivalent industry experience will be considered Experience 3-7 years of experience in plastic injection mold manufacturing or tooling industry Prior project management or engineering coordination experience preferred Experience working with mold design, machining, and tooling processes Technical Knowledge Understanding of injection mold components, mold construction, and mold function Familiarity with mold design processes and manufacturing workflows Knowledge of mold sampling, tryout, and validation processes Experience reading mold drawings and technical documentation Additional Eligibility Qualifications None required for this position. Supervisory Responsibility No supervisory responsibility for this position. Work Environment Working Conditions Office environment within a manufacturing facility Regular interaction with production floor personnel Occasional travel to customer locations or mold trials may be required Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel Some travel requirements.
