Job Description

BIM / VDC
Coordinator (Mechanical Construction - Mid to Senior Level)
A BIM/VDC
Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical systems through Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) processes. This role plays a critical part in bridging design, fabrication, and field operations, ensuring that all mechanical systems are fully coordinated, clash-free, and ready for efficient installation. The position supports project delivery from preconstruction through closeout, helping drive productivity, reduce rework, and improve overall project outcomes. The BIM/VDC Coordinator will develop, manage, and coordinate detailed 3D models for HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems while working closely with internal teams and external trade partners. Responsibilities include leading clash detection efforts, facilitating coordination meetings, and tracking issue resolution to ensure all systems are aligned prior to installation. The role also involves producing installation-ready models, spool drawings, and shop drawings, ensuring that all modeling reflects real-world field conditions and supports prefabrication efforts where applicable. This individual will collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and general contractors to translate design intent into practical, buildable solutions. They will maintain model integrity, manage file structures and version control, and support the implementation of company BIM/VDC standards and workflows. In addition, the role requires providing support to field teams, including assisting with layout, installation sequencing, and resolving coordination challenges as they arise in the field. Coordination with fabrication shops is also key to ensure accuracy and efficiency in offsite production. A strong focus of the role is proactive clash detection and problem-solving. The BIM/VDC Coordinator is expected to identify and resolve spatial conflicts early in the process, suggest routing and design improvements, and contribute to reducing installation issues and costly rework. Documentation and reporting are also essential, including maintaining coordination logs, producing reports and drawings for stakeholders, and ensuring proper as-built documentation at project closeout. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 8+ years of BIM/VDC experience within mechanical construction, preferably working for a mechanical contractor rather than solely in a design environment. A strong understanding of HVAC systems, piping, and plumbing is required, along with the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD is essential, with experience in platforms like BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud considered a plus. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of field installation practices, sequencing, and constructability, enabling effective collaboration with field teams and foremen. Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills are critical, along with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. This role typically supports commercial and light industrial construction projects, including office buildings, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, data centers, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities. The BIM/VDC Coordinator is involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from preconstruction modeling and coordination through fabrication detailing, installation support, and final as-built documentation.
