Job Description

We are hiring! We are working with a multinational pipeline and energy client that is growing and adding a Project Risk Manager to their team.
Pay Rate:
$74.00 - $78.00/hour (W2)
Work Type:
Hybrid Location:
Duluth, MN 55802
Duration :
1 Year Job Overview The Project Risk Manager is responsible for leading the effective implementation of the client's risk management framework across a portfolio of major oil and gas capital projects. This role supports a diverse range of projects spanning liquids, gas, and utilities by driving consistent risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring practices — with a strong emphasis on getting ahead of risk before projects break ground. The position provides technical leadership and guidance to project teams, enabling proactive, quantitative risk-based decision-making across materials, financial, construction, and schedule risk to support successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation of the client's risk management framework, including risk identification, assessment, response, and monitoring across the project's organization. Manage risk activities across a diversified portfolio of large capital projects to support execution strategies and project objectives. Establish, implement, and maintain comprehensive risk management plans with a focus on pre-project risk identification — assessing materials, financial exposure, construction sequencing, and procurement risk before execution begins. Facilitate qualitative and quantitative risk assessments including Monte Carlo simulations to model cost and schedule uncertainty, generate probabilistic outcomes (P50/P80), and present scenario ranges to project leadership in support of informed decision-making. Maintain and update risk registers using Deltek (Acumen Risk or Acumen Fuse) or equivalent platforms such as Oracle Primavera Risk Analysis or Safran Risk, ensuring registers are accurate, current, and actionable. Provide technical expertise in developing risk treatment strategies, including appropriate mitigation and contingency plans. Monitor risk response progress, track changes in risk status, and escalate risks as required. Collaborate with project managers and teams to support risk-informed decision-making throughout the full project lifecycle. Coordinate and deliver risk management training sessions for stakeholders. Facilitate contingency planning sessions in collaboration with project teams and project development groups, including constructability reviews and contingency estimation. Lead lessons learned sessions to promote continuous improvement and institutional knowledge sharing across the portfolio.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in project risk management on large-scale oil and gas, pipeline, LNG, EPC, or major energy infrastructure projects. Hands-on experience with Monte Carlo simulation for cost and schedule risk analysis — candidates should be able to speak practically to how probabilistic modeling has influenced project decisions. Proficiency in Deltek Acumen Risk or Acumen Fuse. Candidates with equivalent experience in Oracle Primavera Risk Analysis or Safran Risk will also be considered, as these platforms share the same underlying methodology for integrated cost and schedule risk modeling. Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, methodologies, and tools including risk register development, constructability reviews, and contingency estimation. Experience supporting multiple projects or portfolios within energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors. Ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative risk assessments with a proactive, pre-project orientation — not just reactive issue tracking. Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Demonstrated ability to influence and support decision-making without direct authority. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. PMI-RMP, PMP, or AACE International certification is an asset.
