Job Description
Overview We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Designer / Project Manager who can take ownership of both the technical design and project management aspects of complex fire protection projects. This role includes system design, project planning, execution, financial oversight, subcontractor coordination, and ensuring adherence to NFPA codes and client requirements. This position is fully onsite in Solway, Minnesota and requires a strong blend of technical fire protection design capabilities and high‑level project leadership Duties Create accurate fire protection system designs using AutoCAD, AutoSprink, HydraCAD, or similar software. Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documentation. Prepare shop drawings, equipment submittals, and hydraulic calculations per NFPA standards. Develop fabrication lists, stock lists, and purchase material as needed. Conduct site surveys to support accurate, economical system installation. Generate RFIs, test certificates, and O&M manuals. Maintain organized design records and documentation. Lead all phases of assigned fire protection projects from initiation through final turnover. Develop and maintain the project execution plan, schedule, risk register, and deliverables. Manage project cost-plus contract requirements including reimbursable tracking and documentation. Approve invoices, purchase requests, and material allocations. Maintain accurate forecasting of cost-to-complete, budget exposure, and cash flow. Lead client communication, progress meetings, schedule updates, and financial reviews. Manage procurement, subcontractor performance, change orders, and progress billing. Identify and document scope changes and lead internal/client approval processes. Ensure construction activities meet safety requirements and NFPA standards. Oversee testing, inspections, commissioning, and closeout documentation. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Fire Protection, or related field. 3-5+ years of experience in fire protection project management and 1-3+ years of fire protection design experience (or equivalent combined background). Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, fire pumps, suppression systems, and water supply components. Experience with cost-plus or reimbursable contract structures preferred. Proficiency with AutoCAD, AutoSprink, HydraCAD, or similar design software. Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills. NICET, PMP, or PE (Fire Protection) certifications preferred but not required. Ability to coordinate effectively across engineering, procurement, construction, and client teams. Ability to travel overnight occasionally. •
Pay:
