is looking for a technically minded CAD designer with manufacturing/fabrication experience to join our team in Union, Missouri. This is not a traditional drafting position. We are looking for someone who understands the connection between a customer's requirements, a CAD drawing, the materials required, and what the fabrication shop actually needs to build it. You will work directly with customers and our fabrication team to develop drawings, prepare material takeoffs, coordinate project details, and make sure projects move from concept to fabrication correctly. What You Will Do Create and modify 2D and 3D fabrication drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor Develop drawings from customer requirements, sketches, specifications, and existing designs Work with customers to clarify dimensions, connections, configurations, and project requirements Prepare accurate material takeoffs (MTOs) from drawings Identify materials, quantities, sizes, fittings, hardware, and components required for fabrication Coordinate drawings and project information with the fabrication/welding shop Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability Make revisions based on customer and fabrication feedback Maintain organized drawing files and project documentation Help prepare information used for estimating and purchasing Review customer requirements and identify missing information before fabrication begins Communicate project details between customers, engineering/design, purchasing, and fabrication Assist with developing standardized drawings, details, and templates Visit the shop as needed to understand how projects are being fabricated and resolve drawing questions Support multiple projects at different stages of design and fabrication This Position Requires Both CAD Skills AND Shop Knowledge The ideal candidate isn't someone who only knows how to draw.
You should understand things like:
How will this be welded? How will it be assembled? What material is actually needed? Can the shop fabricate what is shown on the drawing? What information does the welder need? What does the customer actually want? If you have spent time around welding, fabrication, manufacturing, tanks, pressure vessels, structural fabrication, or industrial equipment , that is a major advantage.
Experience We're Looking For Required:
Experience with AutoCAD Experience with Autodesk Inventor or comparable 3D CAD software Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings Strong attention to detail Ability to work with dimensions, measurements, and specifications Strong computer skills Good organizational skills Ability to communicate professionally with customers and coworkers Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Strongly preferred: Manufacturing or fabrication experience Welding or welding-fabrication experience Experience preparing material takeoffs Experience working from customer specifications Experience with tanks, vessels, piping, structural fabrication, or industrial equipment Experience working directly with customers Experience supporting estimating or purchasing You might be a great fit if you've worked as a:
