Job Description

A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Traveling Commercial Electrical Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support the Project Manager (PM) on medium to large commercial electrical construction projects throughout the Gulf South Region. The APM owns the project's administrative and tracking systems — submittals, RFIs, PCOs, permitting, and closeout — so the PM can focus on managing the job. Although this will be a primarily travelling position, the first jobsite is located in Meridian, MS.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
System Setup & Maintenance:
Set up and maintain project information in required platforms. Keep all systems current and accurate
Submittal Management:
Create submittal packages and track all submittals through approval.
RFI Management:
Enter all RFIs accurately and on time. Track open RFIs through to resolution.
PCO Management:
Enter Potential Change Orders promptly and completely. Track each PCO from initiation through approval. Coordinate pricing and documentation with the PM.
Material & Package Tracking:
Monitor all package material lead times and delivery schedules.
Permitting:
Manage permitting from application through approval. Track inspection schedules and coordinate with the FM to ensure field readiness.
Subcontractor & Vendor Communication:
Prepare and attach cover letters to outgoing correspondence. Maintain a clear paper trail.
Schedule & WBS Updates:
Support the PM in keeping the schedule and WBS current. Enter updates accurately and on time. Flag discrepancies between planned and actual before they become problems. Support the
PM:
Handle the administrative and tracking burden so the PM can focus on managing the project. Anticipate needs, stay ahead of deadlines, and communicate status without being asked.
Marketing:
Treat accurate documentation as a form of marketing.
Closeout:
Compile all closeout documentation, including product data, test reports, warranties, and as-built drawings. Organize and submit to the owner in the format required by the contract.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with project administration or documentation control on commercial construction projects. Proficiency with project management platforms (e.g., Acumatica, Procore, Smart World) and the ability to track submittals, RFIs, PCOs, and permits to closure. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; comfortable managing many open items across multiple projects at once. Strong written communication skills for cover letters, submittal packages, and correspondence with subcontractors, vendors, and the GC. Working familiarity with electrical construction documents, blueprints, and specifications is a plus. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field preferred; equivalent administrative or field experience considered in lieu of a degree. Must comply with a criminal background check and drug test for job as required.
Preferred:
Prior experience supporting a PM on medium to large commercial projects, and familiarity with closeout and warranty documentation requirements.
POSITION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Primarily on site. Extended hours that vary by project deadlines, with regular attendance as an essential function. Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work for data entry, tracking, and document preparation across multiple software platforms. When on-site, must be able to navigate active construction areas, including uneven terrain, while wearing required
PPE. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
