Our structural engineering group supports bridge projects with various level of complexity ranging from bridge replacements, widenings, and rehabilitations to supporting ancillary structures such as retaining walls, sign structures, and drainage structures. Our projects, which are frequently for New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) also consider staged construction and constructability considerations. We're growing and looking for as experienced Structural Project Manager to help elevate our bridge practice, mentor our team, and deliver high-quality designs on schedule. This role offers opportunity to lead County, SJTA, PANYNJ, NJDOT, NJTA and other agency projects with the opportunity to see projects through from initial investigation and design to construction. Responsibilities Project Management:
Manage bridge and transportation structural projects from planning through final design and construction support. Establish and monitor scope, budget, schedule, staffing, and deliverables; manage scope changes and support preparation of supplemental fee proposals.
Technical Leadership:
Lead LRFD-based analysis and design of steel and concrete bridges, retaining walls, and ancillary transportation structures in accordance with applicable AASHTO, NJDOT, and NJTA standards.
Design Delivery:
Direct and review structural calculations, load ratings, plans, specifications, and engineer's estimates. Lead alternatives evaluations and constructability reviews, including staged construction and maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT).
Client and Agency Coordination:
Serve as the primary project contact for clients and review agencies. Lead project meetings, communicate progress, resolve technical issues, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams, subconsultants, utilities, and railroad stakeholders as applicable.
Structural Assessments:
Lead condition evaluations and load ratings in accordance with NJDOT and NJ Turnpike standards; develop rehabilitation and replacement recommendations supported by sound engineering analysis and clear technical documentation.
Quality Management:
Establish and implement project QA/QC procedures, coordinate independent technical checks, and ensure deliverables meet contractual requirements and agency standards. Maintain and improve company templates, standard details, and technical guidance.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
Assign and oversee work, monitor staff workload and performance, and develop junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, review, and mentoring.
Business Development:
Support proposal preparation, scope development, fee estimates, and client relationship management in coordination with senior leadership.
Field and Construction Support:
Conduct occasional site visits, field reviews, and client meetings across New Jersey; oversee responses to RFIs, shop drawing reviews, and resolution of construction-related structural issues. Qualifications B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering; M.S. preferred. Professional Engineer license in New Jersey, or ability to obtain licensure within six months. Twelve or more years of progressive experience in bridge and transportation structural engineering, including demonstrated responsibility for project delivery and team leadership. Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, budgets, schedules, staffing, and multiple concurrent assignments. Strong knowledge of LRFD methodologies and experience delivering transportation projects in accordance with AASHTO, NJDOT, and NJTA criteria. Experience with bridge analysis, design, and load-rating software, such as AASHTOWare Bridge Rating/Design (BrR/BrD), Bentley LARS and OpenBridge, PennDOT programs (ABLRFD, STLRFD, and BXLRFD), and NSBA Splice. Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D for structural plan development and review. Experience with bridge rehabilitation and replacement, staged construction, constructability evaluations, and construction support. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead client meetings, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and explain technical recommendations clearly. Proven ability to mentor engineers, delegate effectively, resolve project issues, and meet deadlines while maintaining strong quality control. Collaborative leadership style, sound engineering judgment, and close attention to detail. Benefits The base salary range for this role is indicated in the posting. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and geographic location.
