www.fivetonmonkey.com Five Ton Monkey designs and builds exhibits, immersive environments, architectural and scenic spaces, and custom installations. Our projects combine creative design with skilled fabrication in wood, metal, foam, composites, scenic finishes, lighting, and electronics. We are looking for an experienced Project Manager. The Role The PM maintains the most complete picture of each project: scope, budget, schedule, allocation of labor, roles of subs and suppliers, what happened last week, and what happens next. You will work closely with the owner, Operations Manager, designers, project leads, clients, and outside partners. Your primary responsibility is managing projects, with full shop and site involvement to understand the work. You will typically have one large project and a few smaller ones on your plate. You'll have the authority to make day-to-day project decisions within agreed scope, budget, and schedule parameters. You will need to learn our existing operation and help develop and improve our systems for managing it. You should bring enough experience to establish practical planning, communication, and accountability while remaining flexible in a small company where every build is different. What You'll Do Own scope, schedules, budgets, communication, project documentation and follow-through. Translate proposals and design information into clear plans, milestones, and responsibilities. Serve as the primary day-to-day client contact; document decisions, approvals, and changes. Coordinate design deliverables and ensure the shop receives current, approved information. Work with the Production Manager and project leads to align schedules, resources, and priorities. Coordinate purchasing, vendors, subcontractors, freight, delivery, and installation. Identify budget and schedule risks early and develop practical responses. Improve handoffs, reporting, and project-management practices as the company grows. Track project costs against budgets, identify variances, and manage changes to protect project profitability. What You Bring Three or more years of relevant project-management experience in custom fabrication, exhibits, specialty construction, scenic production, themed entertainment, or related work. Strong experience with custom fabrication in steel and/or wood and/or fiberglass Demonstrated ownership of budgets, schedules, client relationships, and final delivery. Ability to read drawings, estimates, proposals, and specifications. Clear communication, reliable follow-through, and sound independent judgment. Competency and comfort in Word and Excel. CAD experience is a plus. Respect for skilled tradespeople, designers, and clients Curiosity about how things are built and comfort with not knowing everything Experience creating interesting stuff under varying pressure in a changing environment. This is an in-person position with some project-related travel. This is not a hands-on fabrication position. Why Five Ton Monkey You'll be a part of a skilled and enthusiastic team on varied projects and have influence over how the company operates and what it becomes. We value craftsmanship, systems-building, resourcefulness, direct communication, and a healthy shop culture. Applications must be accompanied by a resume and images of work you have been involved in, with some information about your role in it.
