Buyer/Planner Position Overview :

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for managing the procurement and planning of materials, ensuring that inventory levels meet production and operational needs. The candidate will analyze demand forecasts, negotiate with suppliers, and coordinate with internal teams to optimize supply chain efficiency. The candidate will work within Nanolumens Supply Chain team and will be responsible for establishing item master data lead times, batch size, safety stock targets to ensure 100% system data accuracy while understanding the execution of daily MRP tasks. This is a hybrid role based in Duluth, Georgia.

Job Responsibilities:

Purchasing Create and manage purchase orders based on requisitions received from internal stakeholders. Source, negotiate, and select vendors that meet company standards for quality, cost, and delivery. Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers. Monitor and evaluate supplier performance in areas of quality, pricing, and delivery timelines. Review and process purchase requisitions, ensuring accuracy and completeness before generating POs. Ensure timely delivery of goods; proactively follow up with vendors on late or outstanding orders. Resolve invoice and billing discrepancies in coordination with vendors and the Finance team. Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing data, and supplier information. Prepare regular reports on purchasing activities and supplier performance metrics. Review, edit, and update requisitions or purchase orders as needed, coordinating with internal stakeholders. Provide any requested purchasing-related documentation to internal stakeholders (e.g., anticipated shortages, vendor delays, or production-related issues). Communicate with engineering to interpret and establish technical requirements. Planning & Inventory Control Monitor inventory levels to maintain minimum stock requirements and ensure product availability. Determine replenishment quantities and manage stocking levels for operations and projects. Maintain planning parameters (e.g., order points and order quantities) for parts and materials. Review inventory reports regularly to ensure accuracy of data regarding stock levels, shortages, and excess. Update required spreadsheets and reporting tools to communicate inventory status. Establish and control inventory levels based on demand plans, agreed service levels, and supply strategies. Develop and implement inventory control practices based on value, usage history, forecasting, and special demands. Balance inventory management with service level expectations and inventory turnover targets. Provide guidance and support to internal teams on material specifications, quantities, and delivery methods. Coordinate with operations and finance teams to analyze historical data and forecast demand Understand supplier capacity and lead time and work to provide delivery situations. Process Improvement & Recommendations Recommend cost-savings opportunities, stocking strategies, to Supply Chain/Logistics Manager. Evaluate demand forecasts and purchasing plans to align with production schedules and customer delivery expectations. Recommend reporting enhancements and KPI structures to improve visibility and decision-making. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Production to ensure material availability and schedule alignment. Work with Sales, Project Managers, and Finance to align procurement timing, cash flow, and delivery commitments. Provide timely, accurate communication of ETAs, shipment status, and inventory levels to stakeholders. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) (To be developed collaboratively with Supply Chain/Logistics Manager during first 60 days) Inventory accuracy (% alignment of physical vs. system counts). Supplier on-time delivery and quality performance. Purchase order cycle time and compliance with budgeted cost targets.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Operations, Business, or related field (preferred). 3+ years' experience in planning, procurement, or inventory management. Strong knowledge of procurement and vendor management practices/procedures. Hands-on experience with ERP, MRP, or supply chain planning systems (ERP implementation experience strongly preferred). Experience in developing and working with inventory management strategies and systems Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Strong organizational and time management skills.
