Job Description

Job Title:
Assistant Project Manager Job Description This role supports the successful delivery of large-scale multifamily, commercial, and mixed-use construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The Assistant Project Manager works closely with the Project Manager and field leadership to coordinate project documentation, subcontractor activities, scheduling support, and compliance management. The position is ideal for a construction professional with strong organizational skills, experience on complex construction projects, and familiarity with certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance. Responsibilities Assist the Project Manager with daily project administration from preconstruction through project closeout. Manage and track requests for information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, and other project documentation to ensure timely responses and accurate records. Support subcontractor coordination and help ensure their work aligns with the overall project schedule and sequencing. Assist with project cost tracking, including preparing and reviewing pay applications, monitoring budget updates, and helping to maintain cost controls. Maintain organized and up-to-date project records within project management systems and software platforms. Participate in project meetings and assist with communication between field staff, subcontractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders. Support the preparation of look-ahead schedules and contribute to progress tracking and reporting. Assist in monitoring compliance with certified payroll, labor reporting, and prevailing wage requirements when applicable. Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation to support field operations and project coordination. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent related field experience preferred. Approximately 3 years of experience in Construction Management or a similar role preferred. Experience working on multifamily, commercial, or mixed-use construction projects preferred. Experience with certified payroll and labor compliance reporting preferred. Familiarity with Davis-Bacon, HUD, or VHDA funded projects preferred. Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Elation Systems, or similar construction management software. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and stakeholders in a fast-paced construction environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred but not required with equivalent experience. Experience on large-scale multifamily construction projects is highly desirable. Exposure to commercial or mixed-use construction projects is beneficial. Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements and labor compliance systems is an advantage. Experience using construction management platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Elation Systems is preferred. Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with project managers, field leadership, subcontractors, and stakeholders. Ability to work both independently and as part of a project team. Work Environment This position operates in a combination of office and active construction jobsite environments. The role involves regular coordination with field staff, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, requiring frequent interaction both at the desk and on-site. The work environment includes exposure to typical construction site conditions such as noise, varying weather, and active construction activities, along with standard office-based tasks using project management and productivity software. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $85000.00/hr.
