Job Description
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Manager to lead commercial mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate will manage all aspects of mechanical scope HVAC, sheet metal, piping and plumbing ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, compliant with codes, and to the highest quality and safety standards. This role requires strong technical knowledge, proven project management skills, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors while maintaining excellent client relationships.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead end-to-end delivery of commercial mechanical projects (preconstruction, procurement, construction, commissioning, closeout) with responsibility for schedule, budget, quality and safety.
Manage and mentor project teams, including engineers, superintendents, foremen and subcontractors; provide technical guidance on HVAC, sheet metal, piping and plumbing systems.
Prepare, review and control project schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, progress reports and change order management.
Coordinate design review and interface with architects, MEP engineers, owners and general contractors; review and approve shop drawings, submittals and RFI responses.
Oversee procurement and logistics for mechanical equipment and materials; manage vendor relationships and ensure timely delivery to support schedule.
Implement and enforce site safety and quality control programs; ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and project specifications (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC).Perform risk identification and mitigation, resolve construction issues, and drive corrective actions to maintain project objectives.
Lead commissioning and startup activities for HVAC, piping and plumbing systems; coordinate testing, balancing and system handover.
Manage client relationships and stakeholder communications; present project status updates, facilitate meetings and maintain documentation for contract compliance.
Track and report project KPIs; continuously evaluate processes to improve efficiency, cost control and constructability.
Support business development and estimating during pre-bid efforts by providing mechanical scope input, constructability reviews and high-level cost estimates.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
Minimum 8 years experience in mechanical construction with at least 5 years in project management on commercial projects involving HVAC, sheet metal, piping and plumbing.
Proven track record of managing multi-million dollar mechanical projects from preconstruction through commissioning.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation practices, fabrication, testing and balancing.
Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project or Primavera), BIM/ coordination tools (Revit, Navisworks) and common construction software.
Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC) and experience ensuring code compliance on projects.
Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to manage teams and subcontractors.
Experience with cost control, schedule management, change order administration and risk management.
Certifications preferred: PMP, CCM or mechanical specialty certifications; PE license a plus.
Construction site safety credentials preferred (OSHA 30 or equivalent) and valid drivers license.
