Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
Shelter Operations Oversee the day-to-day functioning of the shelter, including intake, scheduling, and facility maintenance. Ensure the shelter is clean, safe, and welcoming for all residents. Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with agency and grant requirements. Staff Supervision & Support Supervise shelter staff and volunteers, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations. Provide guidance and support to staff in managing resident needs and crises. Promote a collaborative and trauma-informed work environment. Resident Services Ensure residents receive appropriate services 24/7, including case management, referrals, and advocacy. Facilitate conflict resolution and enforce shelter rules respectfully and consistently. Support residents in achieving goals related to safety, housing, and self-sufficiency. Compliance & Safety Ensure shelter operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards. Conduct regular safety drills and maintain emergency preparedness plans. Monitor and report incidents in accordance with organizational policies. Community & Collaboration Coordinate with other departments and community partners to support resident needs. Represent the shelter in community meetings and outreach efforts as needed. Assist with grant reporting and program evaluation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in shelter or residential program management. Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and domestic violence services. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to move throughout the shelter facility, including ADA-accessible areas. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and external partners in person, by phone, and electronically. Ability to perform light physical tasks such as lifting up to 20 pounds (e.g., supplies, donations). Ability to respond quickly in emergencies, including assisting residents with mobility needs. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work Environment:
Residential shelter setting with exposure to emotionally intense situations. May involve occasional travel to partner agencies or community events. Requires flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. Flexible schedule may include holidays, evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts.
