ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work on the street and in other unstructured situations Intervene in circumstances in which violence in likely, including retaliation Communicate all relevant information to teams members and supervisors immediately. Strategize with Outreach team and supervisor to develop an ongoing strategy to respond to conflicts and violence, noting important anniversary dates or other key events. Remain calm & observant to deescalate tense interactions Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate violence prevention/intervention programs such as conflict resolution, gang affiliation, drug abuse, & alcohol abuse. Outreach to the community (individually or as a team member) to build strong relationship with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups. Work cooperatively with community agencies to enhance program development. Evaluate existing programs and make necessary changes to maintain current needs and trends. Availability to work during late nights, weekends, and community events. Schedules may shift based on community activity, conflict patterns, or urgent situations. Assists with division and department special events as requested Participate in all mandatory training and undertake any training and professional development as required to ensure effective work. KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY
Possess firsthand knowledge of the community and of current street conflicts Ability to work one-on-one and in groups with high-risk individuals to resolve conflicts and promote prosocial behavior. Experience with training in crisis intervention, principles in nonviolence, restorative justice practices, or trauma-informed practice Emotional maturity; good judgement; integrity; tolerance of differing points of view and belief; commitment to non-violence. Familiarity with computers such that employee can complete required data entry tasks, communicate via email, and complete basic word processing tasks. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one or small group situations to youths and adults. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Working knowledge of City government preferred
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED Two years of working experience in community engagement activities Two years of previous working experience with children, teens and young adults

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily outside on the streets, parks, neighborhoods, and in other unstructured community settings. Duties are performed year-round in all types of weather including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and high humidity. Work frequently occurs in neighborhoods, streets, parks, alleys, and other non-traditional settings. Conditions may include uneven terrain, limited lighting, loud noise, or crowded public spaces.
