Job Description

H.O.M.E., Inc. is seeking a Shelter Manager for our Orland based shelters. The Shelter Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and programs of H.O.M.E. Inc.'s Orland shelters, supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This position plays a vital role in creating a safe, supportive environment for guests and managing shelter staff to ensure effective program implementation. Under the guidance of the Director of Social Work, the Shelter Program Manager will focus on staff supervision, program coordination, crisis intervention, and guest support, all while fostering a collaborative team atmosphere.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Ensure the seamless delivery of shelter services across all facilities, including The Dorr House shelter for women, The Sister Marie House shelter for families with children, and The St. Francis Inn shelter for men and couples without children. Oversee day-to-day operations, including scheduling, guest intakes, exits, and emergency situations. Supervise Shelter Support Staff, providing regular guidance, feedback, and performance evaluations. Cultivate a positive, cohesive team through mentorship and professional development, and promote ongoing staff training. Foster a welcoming and safe environment for shelter guests. Provide hands-on support to guests in crisis and work to resolve barriers to stable housing. Model empathy and respect while ensuring clear boundaries and expectations are maintained. Facilitate and lead monthly shelter staff meetings and weekly house meetings to strengthen communication, improve team cohesion, and align efforts toward shared goals. Promote collaborative partnerships within and outside the organization to better serve guests. Ensure that all shelter operations align with organizational policies, procedures, and best practices. Monitor shelter facilities for safety, cleanliness, and repair needs. Act as the point person for coordinating maintenance and addressing safety concerns. Represent the shelter at regional meetings, trainings, and networking opportunities. Strengthen relationships with community organizations and public agencies to enhance services and foster collaboration. Provide mediation and support during conflicts between guests or between staff and guests when necessary, ensuring timely resolution and maintaining the well-being of all involved. Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Social Work or Executive Director to further the mission of the organization.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrate a genuine commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty, fostering a supportive and respectful environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage with diverse populations. Able to collaborate effectively with team members and external partners. Calm and decisive in high-pressure situations, with strong conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills. Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, provide constructive feedback, and promote team cohesion. Ability to set clear boundaries and expectations while supporting individual growth. Flexible, self-reflective, and open to new ideas. Basic proficiency in computer systems, with the ability to learn new software. Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) up to 75% of the time. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs and get in and out of a vehicle frequently. Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

Education and Experience:
Required:

At least two years of experience in a similar role within a shelter, social services, or human services setting.

Schedule:
