Job Description

About Us We are a privately held real estate development and property management firm with over 5 million square feet of commercial retail, office, and mixed-use assets under ownership and management across multiple states. We oversee acquisitions, development, construction, leasing, and long-term asset management. We are seeking a Controller to lead our accounting operations and support executive leadership with accurate, timely financial insights. Position Overview The Controller will oversee all accounting functions for a multi-entity real estate portfolio, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, CAM reconciliations, and oversight of AP/AR. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented real estate environment. You will report directly to executive leadership and manage a small accounting team. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Oversight Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities. Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Manage multi-entity and consolidated financial reporting. Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies. Real Estate Accounting Review and approve CAM reconciliations , tax pass-throughs, and operating expense calculations. Monitor NNN structures, lease abstracts, and rent rolls for accuracy. Coordinate with property managers and asset managers on budget-to-actual performance. Budgeting & Forecasting Lead the annual budgeting process across the entire portfolio. Build forecasting models for cash flow, capital expenditures, and portfolio performance. Assist leadership with long-range planning, financing scenarios, and lender reporting packages. Cash Management Manage day-to-day cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functions. Oversee AP/AR, vendor payments, and revenue recognition. Monitor tenant receivables, collections, and lease compliance billing. Team Leadership & Systems Supervise accounting staff; provide coaching, training, and workflow oversight. Improve internal controls, processes, and financial procedures. Work with Yardi/QuickBooks (or similar) to enhance system accuracy and reporting. Audit, Tax, & Compliance Manage annual tax returns with external CPA firms. Prepare lender compliance packages, financial covenants, and audit requests. Maintain compliance with state and federal reporting requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA preferred). 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience. Real estate accounting experience required (commercial preferred). Strong understanding of
CAM, NNN
billing, lease structures, and cash-basis/GAAP reporting. Experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar property management software. Strong leadership skills with prior supervisory experience.
