Adapting to meet our community's evolving needs Job Summary Director of Community Impact & Engagement The Director of Community Impact & Engagement will design, organize, and lead a coordinated system of community planning, resource investment, and partner engagement to advance the United Way of Johnson and Washington County's strategic priorities. A dynamic and passionate leader, this person will cultivate meaningful relationships across the communities we serve and translate community needs into strategic initiatives and investments that improve well‑being. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with proven experience in community management, partnership development, and marketing, and excels at collaborative work. This role presents an exciting opportunity to drive social impact, inspire volunteer engagement, and build sustainable programs that support our mission to create positive, lasting change.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBLITIES
(Other duties may be assigned.) Community Impact & Investment Lead the development and implementation of community needs assessments, including determining appropriate timelines, methodologies, and stakeholder engagement to identify community priorities and measure impact. Provide leadership and oversight to the Community Impact Committee, guiding strategic investment decisions that align with the organization's mission, strategic plan, and identified community needs. Oversee the community investment process across UWJWC's focus areas of Community Resilience, Youth Opportunity, Financial Stability, and Health Community, ensuring funding strategies are data-informed, equitable, and aligned with priorities identified through the Community Needs Assessment. Manage the Community Investment application, review, reporting, and allocation processes, including oversight of technology platforms, performance measurement, and evaluation of funded programs to demonstrate community impact. Community Building Serve as a strategic ambassador for United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties by communicating the organization's community impact vision, investment priorities, and partnership opportunities to stakeholders. Develop, strengthen, and manage collaborative relationships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, businesses, educational institutions, and community leaders to advance shared community goals. Convene and facilitate cross-sector coalitions and collaborative partnerships that address emerging community needs. Identify opportunities to develop and lead new Community Impact initiatives that align with UWJWC's strategic priorities and respond to evolving community challenges. Represent UWJWC on community committees, task forces, and collaborative initiatives to strengthen the organization's leadership and influence within the community. Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and shared accountability among community partners to maximize collective impact. Provide resources and convene Partner Agencies to drive collaboration and stability in our nonprofit network. Special Programs Provide leadership and coordination for UWJWC's disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts, including oversight of the Johnson County COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) and the Emergency Volunteer Center. Provide strategic leadership, development, and oversight for UWJWC Community Impact initiatives, including Ready Set School, Holiday Adopt a Family, SummerShips, and other programs that advance the organization's mission and strategic priorities. Recruit, supervise, and develop practicum students, interns, and volunteers, creating meaningful engagement opportunities that support Community Impact initiatives and organizational capacity.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, public administration, social work, education, community development, or a related field. Demonstrated success in community leadership, coalition building, strategic partnership development, and stakeholder engagement. Experience leading community initiatives, facilitating collaborative processes, and managing complex projects involving multiple partners. Knowledge of community needs assessment, program evaluation, outcome measurement, and data-informed decision-making. Strong project management, organizational, and group facilitation skills. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking. Experience managing budgets, contracts, and grants. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and utilize technology platforms such as e-C Impact, grant management systems, and data reporting tools. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, supervising interns and volunteers, and fostering collaboration across an organization. A working knowledge of Johnson and Washington Counties and the surrounding region is strongly preferred.
HOURS:
This job is full-time. Occasional participation in early morning, evening, and weekend meetings and events will be required as needed. Working from home is allowed as needed.
