The department's work enables the continuation of patient care, student housing, animal husbandry, utility distribution, snow removal, debris removal, and other critical infrastructure support. Custodial and Grounds staff are designated as critical employees, which means in the event of a University of Michigan emergency reduction in operations, including a public health emergency, suspension of academic classes, or during weather-related events, critical employees are expected to report to work. Job Summary The Pest Management Supervisor will lead the group having both administrative duties as well as technical duties. This position has direct management responsibility for seven technical staff and will ensure the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program for the University of Michigan is maintained. The Pest Management Supervisor will be responsible for all aspects including managing day to day activities of staff, safety and safe handling of pesticides, ensuring work orders are completed in a timely manner, and resolving issues of our campus partners. Responsibilities• Represent University of Michigan in a professional manner, and treat all stakeholders including faculty, staff, students and visitors with respect. Manage relationships/agreements with facility managers, custodial, grounds and maintenance supervision. Develop Pest Management staff by identifying skill gaps, providing training, coaching and guidance and conducting the annual performance appraisal process. Stay current with the latest information and practices within the industry. Ensure work orders and compliance paperwork are completed properly and submitted in a timely manner. Meet regularly with campus partners to provide updates on our services and to proactively handle any service related issues. Develop and implement pest control treatment plans. Conduct regular field audits to ensure that services are performed to university standards. Coordinate and conduct pest control surveys and pesticide applications. Coordinate the development and implementation of pest inspections and monitoring systems. Coordinate the development of a communication system to advise faculty and staff on pest control activities and treatment application schedules. Conduct regular health and safety evaluations to ensure pest control procedures, practices, and products comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Required Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in environmental health or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by the State of Michigan as a Pesticide Applicator (7A & 7B). Minimum five (5) years of experience in structural pest control. Minimum three (3) years of direct management experience overseeing the work of multiple technicians. Considerable knowledge of the use and application of pest control products. Knowledge of various exclusionary and eradication methods. Demonstrated customer service excellence. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all times across all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word.
