Oversees the collection of rents and payment of bills, taxes and insurance for properties, and provides property owners with reports on finances and the status of properties. Directs leasing operations, or equipment and machinery rentals, for a company or business. Determines charges and prepares rental or lease agreements; supervises inventory, equipment maintenance and recordkeeping for leasing operations.

We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Accounting to lead the accounting function for this new operating platform and help build the financial systems, controls, reporting processes, and accounting infrastructure necessary to support both the initial transition and long-term growth of the organization. This is a work-from-home position based in Arizona. Preference will be given to candidates located in Tucson, although qualified Phoenix-area candidates will also be considered. Relocation may be considered for the right candidate. The VP of Accounting will work closely with executive leadership, Property Operations, Asset Management, Construction & Maintenance, and property teams. This role is intended for someone who understands that accurate financial information should do more than satisfy reporting requirements — it should help operators and ownership make better decisions. Key Responsibilities Lead accounting operations for M3's in-house multifamily property management platform. Establish and maintain scalable accounting procedures, workflows, and internal controls. Oversee accurate and timely property and management-company financial reporting. Maintain general ledger integrity, reconciliations, coding standards, and financial-statement accuracy. Own and support the monthly financial close process. Maintain strong financial controls and accounting compliance. Provide leadership with clear and decision-useful financial visibility. Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and portfolio-level financial review. Partner with Property Operations to help Property Managers better understand financial statements, coding, trends, variances, and the operational drivers behind results. Support monthly property financial-review processes. Develop consistent reporting and variance-analysis standards across the portfolio. Maintain advance visibility into major Construction and CapEx activity, anticipated invoices, and coding requirements. Support investor and lender reporting needs by providing accurate financial information and operating context. Partner with Operations and Asset Management to connect property-level results to broader investment strategy. Help identify and improve inefficient or duplicative accounting and reporting processes. Support timely and accurate vendor invoice processing while maintaining appropriate financial controls. Help design, recruit, and develop the accounting team as the organization grows. Use approved technology and automation to reduce repetitive accounting work, improve visibility, and strengthen accuracy. Protect confidential financial, employee, resident, vendor, and investor information. Promote accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the organization. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Strong progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, reconciliations, internal controls, and financial reporting. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Experience managing accounting across multiple entities, properties, business units, or locations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High attention to accuracy and financial integrity. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-accounting leaders. Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Ability to collaborate across multiple departments. Comfortable helping build systems and processes in an evolving organization. Preferred Qualifications Property-management or real-estate accounting experience. Multifamily property-management accounting experience. Experience overseeing accounting for multiple properties. Yardi experience. Experience working directly with Property Operations and/or Asset Management. Experience with property or management-company transitions. Prior accounting team leadership experience. CPA or other advanced accounting credential.
