About Fort Smith EMS Fort Smith EMS delivers high-quality prehospital care supported by modern, well-maintained ambulances and equipment and a highly skilled and professional workforce, including Paramedics, EMTs, Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMDs), and dedicated administrative staff. Strong community support Progressive leadership environment Commitment to quality, safety, and innovation Opportunity to lead a high-performing EMS system Position Summary Fort Smith EMS is seeking a qualified and experienced Executive Director to provide overall leadership, direction, and management of the organization. The Executive Director is responsible for the strategic oversight of all operations, financial administration, regulatory compliance, personnel management, community engagement, and long‑range planning. This position ensures that Fort Smith EMS fulfills its mission to deliver high-quality, compassionate emergency medical services to the citizens of Fort Smith and the surrounding region. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provides strategic leadership and establishes organizational goals, policies, and procedures. Directs and oversees daily EMS operations to ensure efficient, safe, and high‑quality service delivery. Manages financial planning, budgeting, and reporting to ensure fiscal stability. Ensures agency compliance with federal, state, and local EMS regulations and standards. Oversees human resources functions including hiring, training, evaluation, and employee development. Collaborates with regional healthcare partners, public safety agencies, governmental bodies, and community organizations. Prepares and presents reports to the Board of Directors on performance, operations, and strategic initiatives. Represents Fort Smith EMS professionally at meetings, public functions, and community events. Leads initiatives for continuous improvement, innovation, and organizational advancement. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public administration, or a related field/experience. Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in EMS, healthcare operations, public safety administration, or nonprofit management. Demonstrated experience in financial management and organizational leadership. Knowledge of EMS systems, clinical operations, and regulatory requirements. Strong interpersonal, communication, and public‑relations skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, public officials, community partners, and the Board of Directors. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading an EMS agency or similar healthcare/public safety organization. Familiarity with Arkansas EMS regulations and regional healthcare systems. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office environment with periodic travel to community meetings, partner facilities, and field operations. Position requires availability outside normal business hours as needed to support operational needs, critical incidents, or agency events.
