Job Description

Role Under minimal supervision, oversees the day-to-day operation and activities of the Public Safety Telecommunicators and Dispatch Center. Major Duties, Responsibilities Responsible for supervision and administration to include staff development, training, and performance management; ensures operational readiness of equipment related to the 911 emergency telephone system, user and affiliated agency radio systems, and the department's computer aided dispatch system (CAD); makes minor repairs to communication systems, analyzes problems and makes referrals to appropriate sources of service. Assist Public Safety Telecommunicators with difficult and complex operations. Assist with the division's administrative responsibilities to include gathering data for statistical analysis; creating and reviewing policies and procedures; conducts quality assurance reviews and assists with the completion of strategic management plan goals. Operate a telephone and radio console to respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services when needed; queries, enters, modifies, and clears information in local, state, and national computerized databases such as the Arizona Crime Information Center (ACIC), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) pertaining to arrest warrants, driver record/history, stolen property, other similar data and transmits relevant information to field units. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Three (3) years of public safety dispatching experience, or three (3) years of progressively responsible managerial, supervisory, or administrative experience.
Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license. All persons applying for employment with the Sheriff's Office shall be required to meet the following general qualifications: integrity, honesty, dependability, industry thoroughness, accuracy, good judgment, initiative, and courtesy. All persons will be required to complete a thorough background investigation to include, but not limited to polygraph, psychological, and physical fitness test. All persons must successfully complete a minimum six (6) month probation period.

Effectively respond to and resolve complex inquires and disputes. Work under extreme pressure, exercise good judgement, and make sound decisions during emergency situations. Maintain manual and automated records while handling emergency situations. Work rotating shifts, which includes weekends and holidays. Observe or monitor objects, data, and/or behavior to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards. Use graphic visual aids, blueprints, schematics, or layouts. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public. Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department. Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties. Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always. Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
Work Environment:
The work environment is associated with an office. The work area is adequately lighted, heated or cooled and ventilated. Job requires the ability to work any shift due to facilities operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Facility operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. The profession requires working staggering schedules that include day, evening, overnight, weekend shifts, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
