Job Description

Due to an upcoming retirement, the City of Poway is recruiting for the position of Assistant Director of Public Works Utilities and is seeking a committed, experienced, and personable leader to guide staff, manage a substantial workload, and advance a broad range of important projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong character and uncompromising ethics—including honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness—along with expertise in administrative principles, goal setting, program development, project management, budget oversight, employee supervision, contract administration, and the application of Federal, State, and local regulations. This individual should be well-versed in organizational and management practices, current developments in public works operations, safety standards, recordkeeping, modern office technologies, and effective written communication. Additionally, the successful candidate will excel at representing the City with governmental agencies, community groups, and professional organizations, and will provide exceptional customer service when working with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.
