Job Description

The City of Tracy is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and emotionally intelligent municipal leader to serve as its next Assistant City Manager. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a strong and collaborative executive team and help shape the future of a thriving and forward-looking Central Valley community. Reporting to the City Manager and serving as a key member of the executive leadership team, the Assistant City Manager will help oversee day-to-day operations, support departments, and ensure Council priorities are implemented thoughtfully and effectively. The position serves as a strategic partner to the City Manager and plays a critical role in advancing organizational alignment, strengthening culture, and addressing operational challenges across the organization. Tracy is navigating significant initiatives that will shape the community for decades to come, including continued economic development efforts and a comprehensive General Plan update. The City Manager and executive team are intentionally fostering an environment centered on transparency, collaboration, continuous improvement, and pride in public service. The City seeks a broadly experienced municipal leader who brings sound judgment, political awareness, and exceptional relationship-building skills. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable with operational problem-solving, strategic thinking, and Council-facing responsibilities. They will be a trusted thought partner, an effective communicator, and a leader who can hold people accountable while maintaining strong working relationships. High emotional intelligence, integrity, humility, and discretion are essential. The annual salary is $268,285-$287,732 , with scheduled 4% increases through 2028, plus an excellent executive benefits package.
