Job Description

About us STARS' mission is to empower and enrich lives through adaptive recreational activities. STARS was formed in 2007 by a group of parents, ski instructors, and management from Steamboat Ski Corporation to help provide improved winter recreational opportunities for people with disabilities. In 2010, STARS was contracted by Steamboat Ski Corporation to be the exclusive operator of all winter adaptive lessons and programs for the Steamboat Ski area. Since then, STARS has grown to offer year-round programming on and off the mountain.

Compensation :
Competitive, based on experience, $75 - $85k Deadline to apply: July 1, 2026 Position Summary Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of all programs. The Program Director is also responsible for the hiring. training, and management of all program staff, interns, and volunteers. The Program Director is a full time, year-round, salaried, benefited position. This position is administrative in nature with some program delivery as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee all programs to ensure STARS is successfully fulfilling mission and participants receive the highest level of service. Work with Operations Director to ensure official records and documents are maintained for all participants, and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations for programs. Responsible for hiring, training, and overseeing program staff with an effective training curriculum. Develop, assess, and grow all programs to meet the needs of our participants. Develop program-by-program budgets and cost/benefit analysis on individual programs. Ensure that program staff, interns and volunteers are properly trained and following all STARS policies and safety procedures. Implement, maintain and supervise safety/risk management protocols for all programs. Manage all aspects of program equipment including inventory, purchasing decisions, maintenance, storage and replacement plans for older equipment. Develop maintenance and staff training plans for all owned or rented STARS vehicles and trailers. Perform thorough evaluation of all programs following each season and make recommendations for improvements. Provide strong leadership and communication with all levels of the organization. Ensures that all grant funded programs are being fulfilled according to grant specifications. Work with Executive Director and other staff on program marketing, new customer outreach and fundraising. Actively participates in all STARS fundraising activities and special events to engage donors and sponsors. Some evenings, overnights, and weekends required Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Passion and commitment for STARS clients and mission Can work effectively and efficiently under pressure and timelines Ability to be flexible, creative and adaptable to a variety of situations Excellent Customer Service and Phone Skills Mature and professional demeanor when communicating with participants, Volunteers and Co-workers. Possesses the utmost respect and trust regarding confidentiality Must be a self-starter with a goal-oriented work ethic Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License and be able to supply proof of current vehicle insurance Commitment to a positive, fun and team-oriented working environment Evening and weekend availability
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree from a four year university 3-5 years of proven and effective management and leadership experience required Minimum 3 years' demonstrable experience in a Therapeutic Recreation and/or adaptive programming preferred Experience working with people of all ages with both cognitive and physical disabilities Solid understanding of adaptive sports including specialized equipment and training protocols.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work outside at high altitude in varying conditions a majority of the time, including uneven terrain, and unpredictable weather situations Must be physically able to assist guests, students, or clients with adaptive equipment Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Must have auditory and visual acuity to operate computers and phones or mobile devices. Must have auditory and visual acuity to interact with guests, students, clients on a daily basis Must be able to successfully manage multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment:
Fast-paced, highly interactive office environment with moderate to high noise levels. Some evenings, overnights and weekends required.
