POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Childhood Education Director intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that welcomes all participants in a nurturing environment through staff development, program innovation & fiscal responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manages, directs and coordinates the childhood education programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Teach/lead activities or provide direct service as needed to meet ratios and participant needs. Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality. Monitors program operations, equipment, files and facilities, to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations, including ADA accommodations, where appropriate. Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Compiles program statistics. Evaluates and makes modifications to maintain effective program. Organizes special events for families. Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or related trainings. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 19 years (NE) or 21 (IA) years of age. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent. Must meet Director-level licensing requirements. At least 1-year supervisory experience in childcare, education or equivalent. Demonstrated success leading education-focused or equivalent team. Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours. Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture training; education-specific training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA). Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check. Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training. Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities. Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift. Screen, train, and enforce abuse prevention policies for staff. Promote a reporting culture, address violations, and maintain confidentiality. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting and communicate zero tolerance to all staff.
