JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Medical Director Department of Public Health Syndemic Infectious Diseases Number of Positions:

CDPH works with communities and partners to create an equitable, safe, resilient and Healthy Chicago. Under the direction of Deputy Commissioner for Syndemic Infectious Diseases, the Medical Director will oversee the supervision and management of staff, including hiring, coaching, training, and conducting performance evaluations. The Medical Director will serve as a Tuberculosis Controller for the City of Chicago, ensuring appropriate public health enforcement measures are implemented to prevent and limit TB transmission. This role also includes providing expert TB-related medical consultation to both internal and external partners. In addition, the Medical Director will serve as the physician of record for TB and STI clinic prescriptions and laboratory test orders. Responsibilities include establishing, implementing, and maintaining clinical and pharmaceutical standard operating procedures to support high quality, compliant patient care and public health operations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serve as TB controller for Chicago, which includes taking appropriate enforcement actions to limit TB transmission
- Monitors and conducts informational studies to ensure that the latest public health trends and treatments for TB are made available to the general public
- Mobilizes staff on a City-wide level to address areas of concern or emerging public health issues
- Coordinates dialogue and activity between care providers and community organizations to develop community-specific public health programs and interventions
- Ensures that health care service provisions are in accordance with departmental standards by evaluating clinic operations and procedures and recommending new policies and procedures in healthcare administration
- Directs TB focused health education programs and campaigns
- Confers with other Medical Directors overseeing various areas of specialty and staff physicians to address concerns regarding medical protocols, treatment, and other medical services provided to patients in health clinics
- Participates in personnel hiring and strategic planning
- Publishes position papers, articles, and other informational materials addressing public health issues and programs, as required
- Collaborate with SID Bureau and Department leadership in strategic planning for SID programs and divisions
- Provide supervision and management of staff including hiring, coaching, training, and performance evaluations
- Establish and maintain collaborations with other CDPH programs other public health agencies national, state, and local
- Provide TB medical consultation to internal and external colleagues
- Serve as physician of record for TB and STI clinic prescriptions and laboratory test orders, including the establishment and maintenance of relevant clinical and pharmaceutical standard operating procedures
- Serve as CLIA medical consultant for the STI laboratory
- Take periodic after hours call duty

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience- Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or the Commission for Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) and completion of a residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), PLUS two (2) years of work experience in the formulation of Public Health Administration policies and procedures Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications • Must possess a valid and unrestricted physician license awarded by any U.
- Applicants must possess a valid and unrestricted State of Illinois physician license and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate at the time of employment
