; DEAN (BL-ARSD-IUBLA) Department Information The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Indiana University Bloomington. It is composed of 40 plus departments, 50 plus Centers, Programs, and Institutes, while also including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and The Media School. Faculty in the College teach over 50 percent of the Indiana University (Bloomington) credit hours and the College occupies about 1.3 million square feet of space in 90 plus buildings on the Bloomington campus. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Serves as a central leader in the College's financial operations, responsible for overseeing budget development and implementation, managing key staff, and providing strategic financial guidance to departments and senior leadership. This role ensures efficient, standardized budgeting processes, supports complex funding structures including IU Foundation resources, and fosters collaboration across the College's fiscal officer community through communication, tools, and shared resources. Leads and continuously improve the College's budgeting system and annual budget process, including development, implementation, forecasting, and budget-to-actual analysis as the year progresses. Provides strategic financial analysis and modeling to support Deans and senior leadership, including long-range planning, pro formas, and evaluation of new programs and initiatives. Develops, standardizes, and delivers financial reporting, KPIs, and key College data to support decision-making, presentations, and institutional reporting needs. Directs analytical support and conduct complex and sensitive financial reviews, serving as a trusted advisor on resource allocation, commitments, and departmental financial strategy. Supervises key staff and oversee complex funding structures, including departmental, discretionary, and IU Foundation resources, while liaising with campus and university financial offices. Develop plans to meet target spend and appropriately allocate IUF resources. Fosters a collaborative financial community by providing training, developing tools and resources (e.g., finance website), and leading regular communication and engagement efforts across departments (e.g. CFAM meetings, Fiscal Officer meetings). General Responsibilities Oversees the analysis of financial performance in university units. Develops short-term and long-term business plans, creates policies and procedures, and analyzes past financial performance. Supervises and trains Financial Analysts to ensure application of best-practice techniques and efficiency of day-to-day operations. Prepares and presents financial analyses and recommendations to senior management. Provides expert advice on all levels of financial activity and interpretation of financial policies to Financial Analysts and senior management. Follows crucial economic, industrial, and corporate trends by analyzing financial reports; implements relevant data into the organization's financial decision-making. EDUCATION
Required Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Preferred Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required 4 years in finance, financial administration, accounting, or related field. Preferred 1 year of management experience in relevant field Financial experience in budget forecasting, financial analysis and accounting is necessary for success in this role. In-depth knowledge of IU fiscal/administrative policies and processes, Bloomington campus and College operating practices, norms, and administrative systems (KFS, IUIE, and IU Foundation FEM) is strongly preferred. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment.
