$17/Hr Position Overview This position is responsible for administering the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury's permitting and development review processes. The Permit Clerk serves as the primary point of contact for the public regarding building permits, electrical permits, driveway permits, and other parish-issued permits, while coordinating closely with the Parish's third-party Certified Building Official (CBO) to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. The position also assists property owners through rezoning and subdivision processes, maintains accurate records, and provides administrative support related to planning and development activities. Key Responsibilities Permitting & Development Services Receive, review, and process applications for building permits, electrical permits, driveway permits, and other permits administered by the Police Jury. Coordinate permit reviews, inspections, and approvals with the Parish's third-party Certified Building Official. Verify applications for completeness and ensure all required documentation is submitted. Issue permits upon approval and maintain accurate permit tracking records. Serve as the primary point of contact for contractors, homeowners, developers, and the public regarding permitting requirements and procedures. Administer specialized permits, including alcohol permits, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Respond to inquiries regarding permit status, applicable ordinances, and development requirements. Planning & Zoning Administration Assist property owners and developers with rezoning applications and guide applicants through the zoning process. Coordinate application materials, public hearing notices, and supporting documentation for Zonning Commission and Police Jury meetings. Maintain zoning records, maps, and related documentation. Assist with ordinance amendments and zoning-related administrative tasks as assigned. Subdivision Administration Receive and review subdivision applications for completeness. Coordinate subdivision reviews with engineers, surveyors, utility providers, and other reviewing agencies. Track subdivision applications through the review and approval process. Maintain subdivision files, plats, approvals, and related records. Assist in preparing agendas, reports, and supporting documentation for subdivision reviews. Records Management & Administrative Support Maintain organized permit, zoning, subdivision, and inspection records in both paper and electronic formats. Prepare correspondence, reports, permits, and other development-related documents. Assist with public records requests related to permits, zoning, and subdivision files. Maintain permit logs, inspection schedules, and related databases. Provide administrative support to the Secretary/Treasurer and Certified Building Official as needed. Compliance & Customer Service Ensure permit files comply with applicable Parish ordinances, Louisiana laws, and adopted building codes. Coordinate with Parish departments, utility providers, and outside agencies regarding development activities. Provide courteous and professional customer service while assisting the public with development-related questions. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information when appropriate. Additional Duties Assist with special projects related to planning, permitting, and community development. Attend meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the Secretary/Treasurer or Parish Administrator. Desired Qualifications Associate's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Planning, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Minimum of 2-3 years of administrative or customer service experience, preferably involving permitting, planning, construction, or local government. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn permitting and records management software. Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to interpret ordinances, regulations, maps, and construction-related documents. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Louisiana building codes, permitting processes, and zoning regulations. Experience coordinating with contractors, engineers, architects, surveyors, or code officials. Familiarity with GIS, electronic permitting systems, or land records management. Working Conditions Office-based work with frequent interaction with the public, contractors, developers, and governmental agencies. Occasional attendance at Zoning Commission or Police Jury meetings, which may occur outside normal business hours. Occasional site visits to assist with permitting or development-related matters. Required Skills Customer service and interpersonal skills. Written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Organizational and record-keeping skills. Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with multiple departments and outside agencies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and office technology. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
