Job Description

Youth Public Safety Academy Assistant Director The Middlesex Sheriff's Office (MSO) is seeking qualified candidates for our Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA). The goal of the YPSA is to establish respect and trust between children and law enforcement professionals. All YPSA staff will help children build confidence and work as a team while focusing on the duties and responsibilities of law enforcement personnel.
Duties:
Under the supervision of the YPSA Director, the Assistant Director (AD) must be able to work from 7AM to 5PM (flexible hours) Monday - Friday at the YPSA, located at the MSO Training Academy in Chelmsford, MA. The Assistant Director will provide direction and support for the YPSA and is responsible for managing the YPSA counselors and assisting the YPSA Director as needed. They must be able to supervise and manage all YPSA staff including Operational Managers and Counselors, as well as camp Cadets. The AD will assist in preparing and implementing YPSA staff training schedule and the YPSA camp curriculum in conjunction with the Director. They will lead staff and Cadets during offsite events such as Community Day and YPSA graduation. The AD will also conduct outreach to parents of cadets regarding financial, behavioral, and logistical matters relating to the YPSA. They may assist food and grounds preparations for the camp each day, relieve counselors during necessary breaks, and enforce community rules during the YPSA. They also must fill in for the Director in the Director's absence and periodically assist the MSO training staff as required. Must perform other work duties as assigned by the YPSA Director or designee. Ideal candidates will have superior communication skills with parents, public safety personnel, and
YPSA/MSO
management. Past experience working with children with disabilities is preferred. YPSA staff work on a contractual seasonal basis from June 29, 2026 through August 14, 2026. Must work well with children in a positive educational environment and have the ability to teach young children about public safety. Perform other related work as required.
Qualifications:
Eighteen (18) years or older; possess a High School diploma or equivalent; prior to start date; Prior experience working with students and young children; Good communication skills; Must attend a temporary training academy In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. The applicant must have an active valid driver's license, the right to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts, pass a criminal background check and subject to mandatory random drug testing.
Hourly Rate:
