The role The City Administrator is the chief administrative officer, responsible for implementing policy direction set by the Mayor and City Council. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role overseeing daily operations, long-range planning, financial management, and all 18 municipal departments. The next administrator will step into one of the most active periods of public investment in Washington's history — with capital programs, a solid waste system transition, and major transportation projects all requiring experienced, steady leadership.
