Job Description

Assists the Director of Public Safety Program to ensure the fire departments in Roanoke-Chowan Community College service area are receiving educational services in a professional way according to North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) policies and North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshall (NCOSFM) requirements.1. Coordinate classes with the fire departments. 2. Meet with fire departments to ensure the needs are being met. 3. Coordinate with fire instructors to make sure classes are being held according to the standards set forth by NCCC and NCOSFM to include classroom visits and classroom observations. 4. Attend meetings with NCOSFM and NCCC to stay up to date with changing procedures. 5. Maintains instructor's files. 6. Completes required paperwork for classes. 7. Ensure equipment needed for classes is ordered, obtained, and restocked as needed. 8. Delivers equipment to appropriate sites. 9. Other office duties such as answering the phone, taking messages, returning e-mails. 10. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
1. The successful applicant should have the ability to work well with others, provide good customers service and assist the Director as necessary. 2. The candidate should establish and maintain effective working relationships with community college staff and fire departments. 3. The applicant should exhibit a high degree of professionalism, organization, efficiency and be proficient in applying technology to work processes. 4. The candidate should have the ability to initiate and implement administrative processes and procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness as directed and/or agreed to by the Senior Dean of CE & WD and the Director. 1. Completion of high school or equivalent. 2. Must be a certified Firefighter. 3. Must have two years of active fire department experience
