Job Description

CATO CAMPUS
This position is responsible for the management and oversight of all aspects of security operations at the assigned campus. Security operations include responding to criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents, hazardous situations, potentially violent encounters, traffic collisions, and other safety-related events. The Director works collaboratively with campus leadership to ensure incidents are appropriately addressed and that expectations for security, safety, and emergency preparedness are consistently met. Responsibilities include planning, supervising, and coordinating security operations on a 24-hour basis; investigating and reporting all security-related issues to the Executive Director of College Security; and leading the delivery of comprehensive security services. This includes supervising, monitoring, training, and evaluating the performance of all security personnel assigned to the campus.- Provides training and supervision of contract security at the area campus and ensures that adequate staff is available to serve the needs of the campus.
- Participates in monitoring and assessing the performance of contract security and off-duty municipal and county law enforcement staff.
- Serves on the campus leadership team and communicates security issues to faculty and staff.
- Enforce College Policies and Procedures, the College's Student Code of Conduct, and make decisions regarding the need to remove individuals from campus premises.
- Serves as the College's official campus contact with community fire departments and law enforcement agencies.
- In the event of a disaster or other emergency, enacts the College's All-Hazard Emergency Response Plan, and serves as the representative for the College in charge of the scene in these incidents. Assists with the functional needs of the Emergency Operations Center as assigned.
- Works closely with Student Conduct & Civility to ensure a safe and secure environment that supports success.
- Advises and assists the department regarding security and police equipment requirements and procurement.
- Coordinates with federal, state, and local agencies to effectively provide security and police services related to special events or dignitary visits at the assigned campus.
- Assists Human Resources with investigations and discipline or dismissal of employees, as requested.
- Provides training for faculty and other staff on security-related issues.
- Provides information to students, faculty, staff, and the public regarding security issues.
- Coordinates access to campus buildings and classrooms.
- Evaluates the operation of security devices and equipment on the campus and ensures appropriate repairs are made.
- Develops procedures and requirements for properly providing security services on the campus.
- Assists the Executive Director in hiring personnel and provides direct supervision, training, direction, and guidance to assigned College Security personnel.
- Serves on multi-disciplinary college-wide committees to represent security and police interests, as assigned, such as the CARE Team.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- An associate degree or five to ten years of law enforcement experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field.
- Experience working in an educational environment.
- Three to five years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
- Knowledge of police/law enforcement procedures and techniques.
- Ability to work with external agencies in the event of emergencies such as natural disasters, inclement weather, bomb threats, or acts of terror. Communicates with external agencies as necessary.
- Ability to understand and determine budgetary implications.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Excellent administrative, training, planning, and oversight responsibility.
- Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures.
- Supervisory skills.
Working Conditions:
Physical effort requires walking, stooping and bending; occasional running, standing, breaking up fights, etc.; occasional lifting of lightweight objects (up to 25 pounds); will occasionally assist in restraining, handling or lifting individuals (from adolescents to adults); discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperatures and air conditions, including outdoor activities; may deal with unpleasant situations, involving fights, weapons, potential incendiary devices, and hazardous materials; occasional exposure to dust and fumes and/or frequent operation of a vehicle.Similar jobs in Charlotte, NC
