Deputy Director of Code Enforcement Full‑Time | Exempt | 35
Hours/Week Hours:
Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM (Occasional evening meetings required) Make an Impact Through Leadership, Service, and Smart Regulation The Township is seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Director of Code Enforcement to provide senior‑level leadership within our Codes Department. This is a key management role for a professional who thrives in guiding teams, improving processes, and ensuring consistent, defensible enforcement of codes that protect the safety and quality of life of our community. Reporting to the Director of Community Development , the Deputy Director serves as a trusted partner in departmental leadership, overseeing daily operations while helping shape strategy, staff development, and service excellence. 35‑hour workweek with predictable hours and meaningful public service. What You'll Do As Deputy Director, you will: Provide day‑to‑day leadership and supervision of Codes Department personnel Ensure consistent enforcement of the
PA UCC, ICC
codes, and Township ordinances, and perform inspections as needed Guide staff through complex inspections, interpretations, and sensitive enforcement cases Oversee permit issuance, inspections, plan reviews, and certificates of use & occupancy Review and manage escalated complaints and compliance cases Represent the Township at hearings, appeals, and court proceedings as needed Evaluate and improve department operations, including: Permit intake and review timelines Inspection scheduling Case management processes Implement standard operating procedures and service‑level expectations Coordinate with Public Works, Planning/Zoning, consultants, and external agencies Support the Director with consultant and contractor oversight Maintain accurate records and documentation across all department activities What We're Looking For Required Experience & Skills 5-7 years of progressive experience in code enforcement, construction, or a related municipal field Demonstrated supervisory or management experience , including performance management and staff development Strong leadership, organizational, and decision‑making skills Ability to interpret and apply regulations in a consistent, legally defensible manner Excellent communication skills for interaction with: Staff Residents Elected officials External stakeholders Comfort handling multiple priorities, interruptions, and challenging situations Proficiency with permitting and inspection software systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Traisr) Valid driver's license An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred Certifications ICC - Property Maintenance
ICC & PA UCC
Residential Certifications in: Building Plumbing Mechanical Energy Candidates may obtain required certifications within a Township‑established timeframe based on operational needs.
