Full Job Description Director, Family Education & Prevention Job Type Full-time Position Summary:
The Director, Family Education & Prevention, provides strategic leadership and oversight for Lutheran Family Services' community-based education, prevention, and training initiatives. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs designed to support children, families, professionals, and communities across Nebraska. The Director oversees staff, program operations, budgets, partnerships, and funding activities while ensuring services are responsive, accessible, and aligned with organizational priorities. This role collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to expand education and prevention efforts, strengthen community partnerships, and support positive outcomes for the populations served.
Job Duties:
Provide leadership and strategic direction for family education and prevention initiatives aligned with Lutheran Family Services' mission, values, and strategic goals. Develop, implement, and evaluate education, prevention, and family strengthening programs that support children, youth, families, professionals, and communities. Establish program goals, performance measures, and evaluation processes to assess effectiveness and support continuous improvement. Develop and oversee short- and long-term program plans to ensure quality, sustainability, and measurable impact. Monitor program outcomes and utilize data to guide operational and strategic decision-making. Recruit, supervise, mentor, and support program staff, fostering a collaborative, trauma-informed, and growth-oriented team culture. Oversee staff performance management, coaching, professional development, and succession planning. Promote inclusive, culturally responsive, and client-centered practices throughout program operations and service delivery. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, nonprofits, healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies. Represent Lutheran Family Services at community meetings, coalitions, conferences, and public events. Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives that support prevention and family education efforts. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure alignment of services, messaging, and community engagement strategies. Oversee the development and delivery of trainings, workshops, educational materials, and prevention resources for internal and external audiences. Ensure educational content and curriculum are accurate, evidence-informed, culturally responsive, and accessible to diverse populations. Conduct presentations, trainings, and educational sessions in both in-person and virtual settings as needed. Develop and oversee program budgets and ensure responsible stewardship of agency resources. Support grant writing, funding development, contract management, and reporting requirements in collaboration with agency leadership. Monitor financial performance, program trends, and funding requirements to support operational effectiveness and sustainability. Prepare and present reports related to program activities, outcomes, staffing, and financial performance to leadership and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with agency policies, contractual obligations, accreditation standards, and applicable state and federal requirements. Oversee program logistics, scheduling, documentation, and operational processes using standardized agency protocols. Participate in Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) activities and support continuous quality improvement efforts. Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated leadership experience in community education, prevention programming, nonprofit administration, or human services. Strong knowledge of prevention programming, community engagement, family support services, and educational systems. Excellent organizational, project management, and strategic planning skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and stakeholder engagement. Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to analyze data, develop reports, and support continuous program improvement. Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and client-centered practices. Ability to act with professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related technology platforms. Regular and predictable attendance, and promptness for work. Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Health, Social Work, Human Services, Communications, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in community education, prevention programming, nonprofit leadership, or human services. Minimum of three years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Experience in program development, training, curriculum oversight, or community-based programming required. Grant management, funds development, budgeting, or contract experience preferred. Public speaking, training facilitation, or instructional leadership experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. Valid driver's license, proof of liability insurance, and ability to travel for agency business.
Physical Requirements:
Hybrid work environment (office, remote, and field‑based). Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer. Flexibility to work evenings or weekends to meet program and organizational needs.
