Under the direction of the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Director, and in collaboration with the City Manager, the Assistant EDC Director supports the implementation of programs, initiatives, and strategies designed to attract, retain, and expand businesses within the community. The Assistant Director assists with project development, business recruitment activities, incentive negotiations, marketing initiatives, and administrative functions of the Corporation. This position helps coordinate communication among City departments, developers, businesses, and regional partners, and serves as a key representative of the EDC when delegated. The Assistant Director performs professional work that contributes to economic growth, workforce development, and community vitality.Supervision:
Reports to the EDC Director. This position has direct supervision over EDC administrative staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.Other duties may be assigned:
Assists the EDC Director with the implementation of strategic and annual work plans approved by the EDC Board. Supports business retention and recruitment efforts, including responding to inquiries, preparing prospect materials, managing data, and coordinating site visits. Conducts market research, demographic analysis, and economic impact studies to support business attraction, expansion, and incentive proposals. Helps administer incentive agreements, compliance documentation, grants, and related economic development programs. Collaborates daily with the City Manager's Office, City departments, and external partners on development projects, infrastructure coordination, and strategic initiatives. Prepares agendas, reports, presentations, and communication materials for the EDC Board, City Council, and stakeholders. Assists in managing the EDC budget, monitoring expenditures, and tracking financial commitments related to incentives and programs. Participates in marketing and promotional activities, including website content, social media updates, and branding initiatives to attract new business and investment. Represents the EDC at community events, trade shows, and professional meetings and may serve as primary representative when delegated. Maintains strong relationships with developers, commercial brokers, entrepreneurs, workforce agencies, and business leaders. Supports long-term planning efforts and assists with performance metrics and reporting.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of economic development principles, business recruitment practices, finance tools, and incentive programs. Knowledge of public sector operations, budgeting processes, and governance structures. Knowledge of market research, real estate concepts, and demographic and economic trends. Knowledge of state laws applicable to EDC operations, incentives, and public information requirements. Skilled in communicating effectively—both verbally and in writing—with business leaders, elected officials, and the public. Skilled in managing multiple projects, conducting research, and preparing clear, accurate reports and presentations. Skilled in building cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Skilled in using technology and software systems for data analysis, marketing, research, and communication. Ability to support the Director in implementing strategies and Board directives. Ability to exercise sound judgment, confidentiality, and diplomacy in sensitive matters. Ability to think critically, analyze information, and recommend solutions that align with EDC goals. Ability to represent the EDC professionally and promote a positive business climate.WORK ENVIRONMENT

In a typical work setting, the EDC Assistant Director shall: Interpersonal Relationships Have a high level of social contact working closely with other office staff and the general public. Communicate with people daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person. May be subjected to irate members of the public, who may use profanity. The employee frequently faces difficult and stressful situations. The employee has frequent contact with other employees both within and outside of the assigned duty station, including the public and various organizations; interactions often involve sensitive or difficult issues that require persuasion and negotiation. The employee is constantly required to multitask and to perform exacting work. The employee is frequently required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines and to work closely with others as part of and/or leader of a team. Hours/Travel Usually works a standard 40-hour week, 5 days per week but may be required to work evenings or weekends to meet deadlines or for special projects/assignments. Required to attend evening City Council meetings twice a month, or as needed. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Primarily works indoors, may be required to be outside and in the weather. May travel by foot or vehicle to other City buildings. Work close to other staff, frequently required to sit, and stand while using hands, arms, and fingers to reach and input data in systems. Exposure to noise from close by departments, staff and public. May lift and move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds. Disaster Service Workers Clause In the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to direct and/or assist rescue and relief workers/initiatives. Such assignments may be assigned in locations and at times, with duties that are significantly different from the "normal" work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor s degree in economic development, business administration, marketing, public administration, finance, urban planning, or a related field required. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in economic development, public administration, business recruitment, commercial development, or a related field. Prior experience with municipal processes, business outreach, or development incentives is preferred.License and Certifications:
Valid Texas Driver's license. Relevant economic development, real estate, or leadership certifications preferred.Similar remote jobs
